Potter Payper
Essex rapper Potter Payper dropped a brand new banger ‘Su Real’, proving his lasting relevance to the UK rap game. He’s one rapper who can go quiet for a while and return like he’s never gone, and that shows he’s made for this.
He flows effortlessly with real life lyrics that paint a vivid picture of his life over a rocky, coarse hip-hop beat produced by the Beat Nerds. “I had a hundred chances but if I had one more I probably would have done more, cuz I can’t see my mum poor. So my intentions I’m pure when I come through your front door, and you know what I come for, don’t feel sorry for yourself, you know money rule the world, you gotta get it, my lifestyle hellish.”
Potter Payper has been in Blade Brown’s studio recently, so expect something from them soon. I hear it might be on Potter’s forthcoming Training Day 2mixtape.
Blitzz & Big Tobz
Big Tobz tweeted ‘Yo ur gonna need some popcorn for this one”, and he was right. Taken from the rapper’s collaborative project Case Closed released earlier this year, ‘The Move’ was the first track on this project after the intro – a thought-provoking journey as they both tell a compelling story.
The video – directed by Mornix – is cinematic, matching the theme and mood of the track seamlessly. It portrays them planning a move, and they rap in a conversational way, showing their storytelling skills. This track shows the brilliant dynamic of the two rappers and how well they gel and complement each others stylesCheck it out below.
67
67 are the most original rap crew out of the UK and we’re getting closer and closer to the release of their third mixtape Let’s Lurk (out September 9th). Ahead of that, we’re presented with a brand new joint off of the tape ‘Jump Out Gang #JOG’. It’s rowdy, it’s sinister, it’s dark and it’s what their fans love them for.
The track has an eerie feeling, with a shockwave of powerful and polished bars coupled with a dark, gritty instrumental and a catchy rhythm section produced by Carns Hill. The Brixton Hill natives and original UK Drillaz combine UK and US sounds with real life experiences in a way that has been key to their success. “Thank God first thing every day when I wake in the morning, then it’s straight money talking.”
We headed to their first Boiler Room on Tuesday evening where they killed their set with legend Tim Westwood.
TE dness
TE dness brings us some feel good vibes on his new cut ‘Girlfriends’, which features Nigerian male vocalist Mologo on the hook, helping bring the sunshine atmosphere to the track. The track has reached us just in time for the summer (well end of summer) and will get all the girls dancing to this feel-good riddim.
TE dness has made a banger of a love track for all the good girlfriends out there treating their men well and vice versa, he raps: “I never let you down if I tell you that your mine, cah I love you like cooked food, ah yea I love your body and your looks too, remember days you were busy in your books too, graduated like gwarn shorty push through. Only person that hit me on papa’s anniversary, how did I even become the only man that’s worthy?”
Youngs Teflon
Youngs Teflon is one of the hardest UK rappers on the scene, recently dropping his long-awaited mixtape on iTunes, Tracksuit Diaries. The South London rapper is a firm favourite amongst his peers, and this shows with the long list of collaborations on this project with features from TE dness, Monkey, LD and Dimzy from 67, and S1LOUD. The 13-track project is very personal, perhaps his most personal and introspective music to date – talking us through a man living two lives; in the streets and in music. The mixtape shows Tefs is in a reflective state throughout with his wordplay and melodic rhymes shining through all 13 tracks. Youngs Teflon told Complex, “The whole concept of the tape was to give the listener a daily look into my struggles and successes. It’s a reflection of how far I came but still being stuck between the roads and the music.”
