The Sounds of UK Rap @BiggHypes @AbraCadabra @lanceyfouxx @YoungsTeflon @MargsMT

Hypo ft. Suspect & Rich The Kid – ‘Buss It Down’

Hypo is one of the Kings of UK Rap. He is behind one of the founding crew’s Mashtown, and has now delivered us the visuals to his brand new epic single ‘Buss It Down’. It features two rappers from both sides of the pond: Suspect from South London and Rich The Kid from Queens, both respected rappers in their respective countries. The Beat Boss delivers the minimal trap production for this international link up, which brings together old school UK Rap flows with a trap sound that makes the track very flavoursome. Hypo is set to push the UK Rap sound to the point of no return. Look out for Mashtown’s album, also dropping this year featuring the original crew.

Abra Cadabra – ‘Stay’ ft. Danzey

North London artist Abra Cadabra hits us with another banger, ‘Stay’ featuring Danzey. The track’s beat is a lot smoother and melodic than what we’re used to from Abz, with his smooth, distinctive voice gliding over the beat, along with singer Danzey who provides a verse. Abra Cadabra is seen in a drop top Jeep cruising around his ends of Tottenham, representing the area he grew up in. The lyrics reflect the video well with him rapping, “I ain’t playin’ no games, no way, cos I’ve been trappin’ for the money all day,” whilst the video moves to a club which sees him, Danzey and his friends all having a good time and popping bottles.

Lancey Foux – Left Home

Following up from ‘Goat’, 21-year-old East London rapper Lancey Foux is making a name for himself with new track ‘Left Home’, produced by Nova. He’s been teasing this track since November, building up the anticipation and appetite for it with his fans. It’s an upbeat, infectious new track where Lancey talks about how he’s doing better and how he came home better than he left, amongst other things. This could very well be a big summer smash. Lancey has a lot of potential and is already turning the right heads…

Youngs Teflon – ‘Lifestyle’

One of the best UK rappers in the game, Youngs Teflon drops a brand new cold track ‘Lifestyle’ complete with some very colourful new visuals to boot. It’s a perfect summer track from the ever-creative and inventive artist, who flows about his lifestyle, women, music and more, even addressing why he has remained an independent artist: “They still wanna know why I ain’t got a deal, but the phone’s been booming yeah the line blown.” Tefs is seen with a nice swagger in bright shirts, gold chains and sunglasses in some shots that add to the flamboyance of his lyrics when he talks about money and stacking it up for his unborn children and mother, and bringing “it back to the gutter.”

Margs – Trenches

Margs is stating his position in this brand new lyric-heavy track ‘Trenches’, where he brings us some fully loaded punchlines. It’s an authoritative track with lines such as, “This rap game’s full of d******’s, that’s why I don’t wanna hear about gang. North South, East, West, everybody know about man.” The video matches the lyrics with some menacing looking friends of Margs – some clad with masks accompanying him at a pool club. We also see rapper Joe Black in the video too. He isn’t taking any prisoners with this track that’s for sure.

Skeamer x Skore Beezy – Better Place

Skeamer and Skore Beezy take it to the streets of Clapham Junction, their respective hometowns, for ‘Better Place’ – a song dedicated to their friends lost to the roads. The mellow beat allows the two artists to open up and pay homage with Skeamer coming in first, “This shit gets deeper, Veli on my t-shirt, banging through my speaker.” It’s a deep, reflective track, but also one that looks to the future hoping for themselves and people around them to lead a better life, doing it for the friends they have lost. Skore Beezy raps, “Tryna do this shit for my dawg, get him a better place.” It’s emotional and it’s real.

Young Adz ft Dirtbike LB, Gabos, 9Goddy, K Trap & Abra Cadabra – Free Gutta Part II

It’s been 7 months since we heard the ‘3 Gutta Remix’ from South London artist Young Adz which featured Dirtbike, LB, Gabos, 9 Goddy and Domez, and now the ‘Free Gutta Part II’ has been released with two additional rappers K Trap and Abra Cadabra. They take it to the hood again for the dark visuals matched with menacing bars over an ominous, trap beat. Young Adz flows on his verse, “Kidnap kidnap, kidnap crew, don’t know about you but me and LB made the news,” whilst still handling the hook which the track ends on. It’s still one for the streets no doubt, with all the rappers trading cold bars.

Belly Squad – Like That

Belly Squad are the London trio from East and South London that are mixing UK rap with Afrobeat melodies so well that they are due to make a huge impact this year. Their raw sound can be found on their brand new track ‘Like That.’ It’s infectious and showcases their African and Caribbean heritage. The production has irresistible production along with catchy lyrics that inherit their London hometowns, “I told her don’t worry I’m a nice guy, chilling in the ends chicks wave when I pass by, yea she heard that I’m a fly guy, hitters in the Germans beep beep when they drive by.” ‘Like That’ can be found also on Belly Squad’s recently released ‘Banana’ E.P.

Pakman – Verified

Pakman has been going in hard this year with a few releases already under his belt in 2017. The video opens up on a shot of him walking through Hillside Garden Park in South West London, his hometown, to getting in a Mercedes showing a juxtaposition of his life which is also portrayed through his lyrics. “It’s deeper than rap, it’s real life. I’m the same little yout you saw in Hillside, difference is now I blow a bag when I feel like, so I ain’t signing shit unless the deals right.” His flow is laid-back but his delivery is strong as he spits real-life bars over a melancholy beat produced by 5ive Beatz.

Suspect & Youngs Teflon – WDYK

Two of South London’s hardest UK rap artists Suspect & Youngs Teflon unite for ‘WDYK’ an abbreviation for ‘What Do You Know.’ The two bring their coldest bars over a trap-heavy beat for a street banger. Suspect handles the catchy hook with ease and also comes in for the first verse, “Only the realest with us, these n****s they talk, but none of these n***s are stuff, might bring out the chalk, line these n****s all up.” Tefs comes in next, “What do they mean, we going gold in 2017, now I got dirty money and clean, it was all a dream, now it’s as real as the fiends.” Both their lyrics are flamboyant, which match the clean video complete with icy watches and cars. Suspect has also dropped his mixtape ‘Loading’ with features from Giggs, Gunna Dee and more.

Congratulation to Nines on the release of his album ‘One Foot Out’ which landed at No.4 on the national album charts in the UK with a reported 1.5 millions streams in 24 hours on Spotify and Apple Music. Nines also revealed in a vlog that he has a joint album on the way with Ice City Boyz comrade Skrapz which fans will definitely be excited about! Apparently it’s already been recorded, so we can expect that soon.

The Sounds Of UK Rap @YoungsTeflon @Official6ix7 @OfficialGiggs @nines1ace @TremzAYLAAH @KreptandKonan

Youngs Teflon

Brixton rapper Youngs Teflon is a UK gem. His work rate has always been high, and he always produces good quality music to our ears. At the beginning of March, he delivered an intense 14-track mixtape March Madness packed full of hip-hop beats that could easily take you back to the ’90s. He lyrically rides classic instrumentals which a lot of you will recognise as they have had Eric B & Rakim, Kendrick Lemar, Souls Of Mischief, The Lox and more spit on them. We also see a UK classic from Dubz & Giggs ‘Pain Is The Essence’, with Tefs giving his own spin. This is a true, refreshing UK rap sound with Tefs spinning us tales in his identifiable way, with the timeless sounds of DJ Premier, Dr Dre, Alchemist and many more. Listen below.

67 ft. Giggs

I think this track is seriously going to be a UK rap classic. The 67 crew have been teasing us with clips before the video dropped for a little while, getting everyone excited for the visuals to drop! Now we have them and it was definitely worth the wait. ‘Let’s Lurk’ is pure crud, with the instrumental pounding out a repetitive marching beat with a looming feel to it, and the video matching the tracks dark vibe. It features the Godfather of UK Rap, Giggs, who matches the tracks sinister feel with an amazing verse that complements 67. It’s UK at its finest.

The 67 boys also released news of their first headline show which will take place on the 29th March at Birthdays in Dalston. This is going to be one you won’t forget so get your tickets here now.

Nines

Whilst wer’e on the subject of shows, unfortunately the Church Road rapper Nines has had his shows cancelled, probably due to the police shutting it down. It’s a shame this is still happening to artists in the UK. We hope he does a secret show for his fans soon though!

Tremz

Liverpudlian rapper Tremz has hit us with a brand new studio video for a cruddy track ‘Pull Up Hop Out Bang’. Tremz delivery is energetic and he keeps it real with his lyrics, and this is why UK rap fans are starting to take him in more, and he is getting plays on the likes of 1Xtra and has a Westwood Crib session dropping soon. This track is taken from Fumez The Engineer forthcoming ‘The Mix-Tape’ which will also see tracks from Sho Shallow, Ard Adz, Joe Black, Cadet and more on March 13th. Listen to Tremz scouse trapping below…

Krept & Konan ft. YG

Krept & Konan are two of the most well known rappers right now in the UK straight out of South London. Their album ‘The Long Way Home’ dropped last year, and now we’ve been treated to a new video off of their ‘Last Night’. Whilst we hear the opening chant of “I don’t even know what I did last night’ we see Krept & Konan walking into a club with scantily clad women in masks. The rap duo drop some very crisp bars, full of punchlines, whilst YG slides in at the end to give his spin on the track.

C Biz

Last but not least, I’m ending this week’s column on C Biz. South Kilburn style the video shows lots of money, gold watches and chains. ‘Money March’ is a straight street anthem with C Biz talking about his real life situations, “C Biz taste this, this never started overnight, this shit took ages, fast life fast money,” with lots of swaggy clothes.

Pixies Tracks Of The Week @CokesM3 @IvyLab_ @FekyOfficial @YoungsTeflon

Coco – Target Practice

Renowned Sheffield Grime artist Coco drops a fresh, new track “Target Practice” with production from another Sheffield native and legendary BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ Toddla T. Coco really shines on this track as he goes in hard with his bars with straight fire and no hooks over a dark, sub heavy instrumental. Watch out for him as he has started to become on tastemakers radars and is one to watch.

Ivy lab – Focus

Ahead of their Fabric appearance, Ivy Lab drop “Focus” as a free download. The London trio of prolific D&B producers give us a treat with this track for a dancefloor filler, velvet roller that has both harsh and smooth elements too it. It has an emotive depth to it too. If you like what you hear make sure you head down to catch them in EC1.

Fekky ft Skepta – Way Too Much

It’s been around a year since Fekky and Skepta linked up for a collaboration for a remix. Now they join forces again for Fekky’s brand new single “Way Too Much” where Boy Better Know’s Skepta provides the hook and a verse over the minimal production, allowing the lyrics to take center stage. This is UK music at it’s best, with road rap and Grime joining for a banging track. Fekky’s album El Clasico will be dropping soon too.

Youngs Teflon – Run DMC

South London MC Youngs Teflon returns with “Run DMC” bringing the Summer vibes with his video. The instrumental has a melancholic, ethereal feel with Tefs dropping some truthful, hard-hitting bars.

Potter Payper (@ThePotterBk) – 24 [Mixtape]

This is one mixtape I have personally been waiting for for a long time. I named Potter Payper as my 5 emcee’s to watch out for this year last week, and this week he dropped his heavily anticipated 24 mixtape for the rap fans out there. He had a few good releases last year including video for Bandoe which is remixed on the tape and features Youngs Teflon, Bonkaz, Snow Team, Illmade and Sicker we also see other features on other tracks from Mark Asari, Keke and more.

PAyper

This was worth waiting for and a tape that will stick around on my iPod for a while to come and may stay a classic. He wasn’t shy to show emotion, and his pain and struggle really shines through.
