Paigey Cakey premiered her new track One Day with tastemaker site Earmilk and it’s great to see more and more people taking notice of her, as she showcases her lyrical ability for the introductory track to her freshest project The Right Paige to be released via Alwayz Recordings in 2015.
The triple threat MC/model/actress Shystie returns with new single Stop, which is currently this week’s ROTW on 1Xtra with Twin B & Yasmin and got it’s premiere with Clash Magazine.
Produced by Deanyboy and featuring Jalissa on arguably THE catchiest hook of 2014, the piano riff and the big-bass-filled drum beat draws on influences reminiscent of 90’s dance classics, with a nod toward DnB, topped with a refreshing slice of 2014 freshness. ‘Stop’ is the first track to be taken from her forthcoming E.P, Exhalation, due for release in November 2014.
Somerset House has an annual live music event, the Summer Series over 10 days with some of pop music’s favourite stars. This year saw Chvrches, Kelis and star of the moment Sam Smith, among others, take to the outdoor stage to perform to fans who were lucky enough to get tickets to the event and hear him perform a variety of tracks including ones from his album ‘The Lonely Hour’.
Grammy nominated MNEK warmed up doing a mash up of ‘Ready For Your Love’ and Duke Dumont ft A*M*’E’s ‘Need U 100%’ and new single ‘Wrote A Song About You’.
His charisma and charm seemed to enchant the audience as he spoke in between tracks explaining and sharing the secret that he wrote it because he’s never been in love before. He also explained that he used to work in St Pauls just up the road, explaining why performing here felt like home to him, and this certainly came across to all present as he comfortably performed several of his honest, intimate and heartfelt tracks to us.
Among these performances was a live band rendition of the well known hit ‘La La La’, which despite Naughty Boy’s absence, impressively showcased his vocals nonetheless, and the well known ‘Latch’ from an inspired synergy with the producer duo Disclosure. His voice was simply electric like the thunderstorm sky on the Friday night that he took the stage to, which started drizzling with rain just before he came out. This didn’t stop people from singing along and dancing and he joked with the audience telling them to put a middle finger up to the rain, also adding “who’s been moaning about the heat all day?”
‘Money On My Mind’ was a clear favourite with the audience as the more upbeat track got people moving and dancing around to the No.1 smash. Tracks such as ‘I’m Not The Only One’ was another favourite and everyone was singing to the soulful and emotive track. ‘Leave Your Lover’ which is another one of his more ‘slower’ tracks and on release got people thinking about the story line, left the crowd in awe. ‘I’m Not The Only One’ got Sam filled with emotion as he disclosed no other time had he heard the audience sing it back to him.
Of course we can’t forget the moment Sam’s band began to play my favourite track of his ‘Stay With Me’ which I had a feeling he was going to end on and the Queen of R&B Mary J. Blige made her entrance onto stage to perform with him. The crowd all screamed together as she entered and we stood in the rain together singing and watching in amazement as a legend and a maybe soon-to-be legend, sang beautifully together, taking everyone’s breath away.
Sam Smith truly was magical at Somerset House, more than any time that I’ve been fortunate enough to see him before.
Stormzy is one that I’ve been saying is one to watch for a while now and the heat is definitely on him at the moment after the release of his very highly anticipated EP Dreamers Disease. This is the 2nd visual to be released from there Not That Deep produced by Heavytrackerz.

Keeping the heat on her (which isn’t hard for her), the 20-year-old North London rapper drops the video to ‘The Hamptons’ which is another visual taken from her critically acclaimed E.D.G.E EP. The video truly captures the meaning and ethos of the track that is produced by Da-P (Soulection) and features cameos from singer Kali Uchis and Ricky Bricks from THC.
Yellows and Paigey Cakey both from the Alwayz Recording camp joined forces for Yellows new track ‘Cake’. The two MC’s play on the meaning of the word cake, from the sweet food, to money, to a women’s soft disposition over a bassy, lively beat, with the pairs vocals complementing each other from Yellows deep tone to Paigey’s sweet one. This track will be on Yellows’ forthcoming mixtape ‘No Ego’ watch out for that one!
Black The Ripper’s new track introduced us to his forthcoming project too, ‘Outlaw Volume 2 ‘which is due to be released at the end of August. In true Samson style we see the lyricist spit some realness about his thoughts from the music business to life in general in ‘I Don’t Feel Nothin’, “Industry don’t like me, but I ain’t here to make mates”. On the hook providing us with vocals is Tayong.
South London’s Youngs Teflons has shown a lot of other people up who have attempted to remix Drake’s 0-100, as last week he released a video putting his own spin on it. He has some serious wordplay on this track and an effortless, natural flow that really proves why he is one of the most rated lyricists about. Listen to these clever bars properly and take in what Tefs is saying.
