Pixies Tracks Of The Week

Lixo ft. Trim – Writers Block

This track is unusual, creative and wonderful. Produced by Lixo who provides an airy, spaced out, chilled beat with twists and tribal elements, which allows one of Grime’s finest lyricists Trim to put his touch to it.

Sticky Blood & JiKay ft Frisco – Oh My Days

Sheffield producer duo Sticky Blood are known for their genre defying music, and they have come up  once again with a straight up banger, collaborating on the production with JiKay (All Trap Music/Hot Damn) and enlisting veteran MC and Boy Better Know member Frisco for their brand new track ‘Oh My Days’. Frisco attacks the bass heavy, thunderous beat with his bars, bringing snarling lyrics and punchlines

Lil Choppa – Kill This

Birmingham Grime artist Lil Choppa has dropped a madness with new tune ‘Kill This’. He talks us through real life situations that have happened to him and people around him in a dark video with flames and lights that add to the the ghostly feel.

Kid Bookie – Premonition w/ Christie Ft. Nasaan & Dot Rotten

South East London’t Kid Bookie brings us a UK U.S link up for new track ‘Premonition’ where he brings in exceptional UK artist Dot Rotton who also produces the beat under name Zeph Ellis, and Atalanta rapper Nasaan. Each artist brings their own unique style and flow to the track. Kid Bookie has definitely stepped out the box with this one.

MTV The Wrap Up – Rap Rundown [News]

She is the name on everyone’s lips right now, from industry experts, to music artists, to fans; Little Simz is killing it right now. Keeping the heat on her (which isn’t hard for her), the 20-year-old North London rapper drops the video to ‘The Hamptons’ which is another visual taken from her critically acclaimed E.D.G.E EP. The video truly captures the meaning and ethos of the track that is produced by Da-P (Soulection) and features cameos from singer Kali Uchis and Ricky Bricks from THC.

Yellows and Paigey Cakey both from the Alwayz Recording camp joined forces for Yellows new track ‘Cake’. The two MC’s play on the meaning of the word cake, from the sweet food, to money, to a women’s soft disposition over a bassy, lively beat, with the pairs vocals complementing each other from Yellows deep tone to Paigey’s sweet one. This track will be on Yellows’ forthcoming mixtape ‘No Ego’ watch out for that one!

Black The Ripper’s new track introduced us to his forthcoming project too, ‘Outlaw Volume 2 ‘which is due to be released at the end of August. In true Samson style we see the lyricist spit some realness about his thoughts from the music business to life in general in ‘I Don’t Feel Nothin’, “Industry don’t like me, but I ain’t here to make mates”. On the hook providing us with vocals is Tayong.

South London’s Youngs Teflons has shown a lot of other people up who have attempted to remix Drake’s 0-100, as last week he released a video putting his own spin on it. He has some serious wordplay on this track and an effortless, natural flow that really proves why he is one of the most rated lyricists about. Listen to these clever bars properly and take in what Tefs is saying.

Dot Rotten released his anticipated mixtape ‘Interview’ full of diverse but brilliant tracks from start to finish. With various and varied artists featuring such as Abel Miller, Lady Leshurr, Stylo G and more, the tracks cover numerous subjects from the music industry, label issues which he sets straight, women and more. Dot has again created a work of art which you can download over at minarmydownloads.com.

Dot Rotten – Message To The Scene [Audio]

Dot Rotten does what he does best on Message To The Scene with his grimey fast paced flow over this hard hitting beat. I wonder who exactly this message is being directed at….

MTV The Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

I don’t think many weeks have gone by without me mentioning these guys names over the past few months, and it was only over a week ago they won best newcomers at the MOBO’s. Even bigger news for them this week; Krept & Konan announced on Wednesday (23) that they had officially signed a deal with Virgin EMI.

Krept said via Twitter: “We will always be Krept & Konan and I’m glad we have a major label willing support us for what WE do that don’t want us to change.”

North London rapper Young Spray who has been in the game for around a decade took to Link-Up TV to hit us with some hard street bars for his second ‘Behind Barz’. It also got a lot of people talking on whether he was taking a direct shot at Mashtown’s J Spades.

“I’m that rapper that has never ever gave man fades, more like I gave man spades to bury their friend.”

One of the UK’s most promising emcee’s dropped the first video ‘Testing The Water’ from his forthcoming EP of the same name due in January 2014. Blizzard from Manchester let us into his thoughts for this deep track, also showing us he is a well-rounded artists by playing the piano, singing and also producing the track.

Another young rapper from Manchester put out a video for us last week. This one is from Geko who put out a freestyle video for track ‘Working’ which discusses some life experiences and what he sees around him. Look out for more in the coming months from Geko.

We know Dru Blu’s been hard at work in the studio as he is due to drop his ‘Double or Nothing’ street album soon which sees features from Stylo G, FekkyDavinche and more. Warming us up for the release and perhaps showing us one of his impressive tracks off the album, Dru dropped the video to ‘Game Changer’, featuring and produced by the talented Dot Rotten. I can’t wait to hear what else Dru has in store for us.

MTV Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

I was excited to see Dot Rotten and Black the Ripper on Wednesday evening (13) as they opened up for Joe Budden at XOYO. I think they are both massively talented, and I hadn’t seen them live before. The two first performed ‘This Is For’ together and then Dot left Samson to perform tracks from his ‘Married To Marijuana’ mixtape. Dot Rotten premiered a new track for us called ‘The Grief’ which I’m sure you will be able to hear for yourselves soon…

A few things happened on Twitter last week, starting off with K Koke’s and Dappy feud being brought back alive. Dappy replied to a tweet from Koke, saying that the Roc Nation artist was just not on his level yet, tweeting a picture of a packed arena.

Koke then replied to Dappy asking him to get in the ring with him for Red Nose Day, claiming: “I’ll beat him up with one hand tied behind my back I promise”.  Personally I think they should have done it and had it out; it would be rather entertaining to watch too!

Cashtastic released ‘5am in London’ covering Drake’s track ‘5am in Toronto’, where he addresses some issues and announces his deal with Universal, spitting: “Adz sent for me but where did that get him? Focus on your career and just make money bredrin.”

Seemingly after the track was released, Ard Adz tweeted Cashtastic yesterday (17) with a message that read: “@cashtasticmusic UR A NERD UR NOT ALLOWED IN UR OWN ENDS UR JUST A RAPPER , U CAN NEVER RELEASE A VID CALLED #PECKHAMBOY. HOPE TO SEE U SOON”

He continued: “@cashtasticmusic UR HARD AT RAPPIN BRO INSHALLAH U GO ALL THE WAY , ALL IM SAYING IS STOP FOOLING THE FANS UR NOT BOUT THAT LIFE SEE U SOON”

Cashtastic didn’t reply, perhaps given his Universal announcement. Cash has gone from strength to strength over the years, proving himself to be one of the best in the UK rap scene. Let’s see how this deal will elevate him and his career.

Speaking of Brixton’s Ard Adz, him and Sho Shallow released the visuals to their new track ‘Brixton Boy’ last Monday which will be on their ‘G.H.E.T.T.O’ EP, out this month.

Giggs, who is one of the UK’s most respected rappers, put together a 53-track free downloadable mixtape with DJ Big Ryde for the fourth in the series ‘Best Of Giggs’.  You can download that via GRM Daily now.

South London rapper Colours returned with ‘It’s Going Down’ after a short hiatus to bring us the video to this methodical street track, where we hear Colours flows easily over a big, heavy bass beat. We should expect to see a mixtape from him very soon.

Rap Up UK released two biography mini documentaries last week, kicking off with Tinie Tempah for the first one, showing his rise from the Aftershock days, ‘Wifey Riddim’ to his first album ‘Disc-Overy’ which took him from the UK underground to worldwide stardom.

The second one showed a rapper who is still at the tender age of 15-years old. Geko is already predicted to be huge in the future and the documentary saw how his persistence messages to K Koke from the age of 10 paid off when he messaged him back; he later became a part of USG. His first official single ‘They Gonna Know’ will be available to pre order from iTunes soon.

Speaking of Geko; himself and Dot Rotten will be performing at Mic Righteous’ event on May 24 at The Garage; you can buy tickets for that now!
