Pixies Tracks Of The Week @ARTANLDN @BigFris @casisdead @skrapzisback @OppsNextDoor

Artan – Opposite Interests

Artan is one of the freshest artists that has created a different dimension to his music, switching up between singing and rapping. It’s an exciting time for him as this is the first release off of his forthcoming debut E.P ‘Breaking Stereotypes’ on 24th May. It’s one for the summer too!

Frisco – Get Greazy

Boy Better Know’s Frisco drops a brand new very cold video for ‘Get Greazy’ where he spits over two different beats, the first one has an oriental theme to the production filmed with a dark background. After 2 minutes it changes to a white background with a more darker, bouncier beat.

CASISDEAD – The Grid

This is an artist who knows how to bring his lyrics to life with his visuals, and here it does it again with ‘The Grid.’ CASISDEAD spits gritty lyrics that match what is going on in the video.

Skrapz – Enemies

Ice City Boyz representative Skrapz heads out to Barcelona for the visuals to ‘Enemies.’ He speaks his mind about events in his life from his ambition, to being the coldest, and how you shouldn’t be fucking with him or his his energy.

Tizzy Gang – Shekel

Tizzy Gang drop the latest installement ‘Shekel’ from their forthcoming album ‘Opps Next Door’ out June 16th. Tizzy Gang members Merky Ace and Cadell are joined by Vic Santoro for this aggressive grime banger, laying down sick bars over a haunting beat.

The Sounds of UK Rap

Skrapz – ‘Enemies’

Fresh from Anthony Joshua playing Skrapz’s ‘They Ain’t Ready’ as he headed into the ring to go on to beat Wladimir Klitschko, the Ice City Boys representative brings us a brand new track called ‘Enemies’. Rapping in his trademark flow, Skrapz’s lyrics reveal that he doesn’t “fuck with anybody that prevents progress.” He raps cold, real-life lyrics over a dark, trap production showing his ambition and drive, hence why he has a large fanbase and is thought of by many as one of the best in UK Rap.

Yungen – ‘Fools Gold’

Yungen brings us a laid-back, summery tune in ‘Fools Gold,’ where he discusses gold digging girls, how he’s not really just into looks, and how there has to be more to his woman than just a pretty face: “Snapchat she always sending me the whole filter, she got man coming home to no dinner. I’m like baby girl a wifey ain’t all about looks, so you best start learning to cook. I don’t want a pretty face with no brains get your head in your books.” He’s telling girls to dream bigger, be independent and do it for yourself. The visuals show Yungen and his girl in Central and South London in his car along with views of the London Wheel in the background.

Abra Cadabra ft. Sneakbo – ‘My Hood’

Abra Cadabra is joined by Sneakbo for ‘My Hood’. The dark track is joined by an equally sinister video that matches the mood and theme of the track. The video opens with an actor being asked to open a briefcase, where he pulls out two photos and is asked to get rid of the people in them. The men in the photos are Abra Cadabra and Sneakbo, and he clearly doesn’t get very far as we see him in the next shot bloodied and bruised. It shows off Sneakbo’s hard flow and strong lyrics stating his lifestyle, “I came a long way from a push bike, blacked out hoody I’m a hood guy, gas gang I was like Suge Knight, now I live it up every month book flights.” Abra brings his trademark delivery along with some hard lyrics, “When it comes to the beef then we dun talking.”

Dutch – ‘Speeding’

Hackney rapper Dutch brings us the inspirational and deeply emotional ‘Speeding’. Dutch brings his fans into his world and his struggles he has faced such as being able to give his family money in this introspective offering where he also talks about how Skepta’s ‘That’s Not Me’ made him realise that blowing your money on certain things wouldn’t help, so he went back to the drawing board. You can hear Dutch’s passion shine strongly in his delivery and lyrics over the melodic production from Michelin Shin.

Fekky – Billi

Fekky hits us with his brand new and brilliant video for ‘Billi’ after his return to Charlie Sloths’ infamous Fire In The Booth where he hit new heights with his lyricism and style. The new track is a taster of what to expect from his new album El Classico and shows Fekky with lots of swagger in a fur coat in the TV Toxic-directed visuals. The track is directed at his opponents and haters: “hating n****s everywhere they wanna lick man down.”

“Talking beef, f*****g punk look at you now.” Fekky goes in with straight, savage lyrics like the D Double E bar, “Head gets mangled and dangled,” and no nonsense delivery that should really show anyone going up against him, it isn’t worth it. Fekky delivers us with another straight up banger, and we can’t wait to hear more from his forthcoming album.

The Sounds Of UK Rap: @OfficalChip @YungenPlayDirty @RaxOfficial @MoStack @konanplaydirty @Ocean_Wisdom

I’m here to bring you some of the latest tracks and news from the world of UK Rap from the past two weeks. There has been a lot going down musically and more beef has unraveled too.

Yungen & Chip

Let’s kick things off with the Yungen and Chip beef that I touched on briefly in my last column with Yungen’s track ‘Comfy’ where Chip thought he was indirecting him. Things have moved on progressively with Chip dropping his ‘One Take’ freestyle, firing direct shots straight at Yungen.

Now it’s been said there is rat in the Chip camp, due to the fact Yungen already knew Chip was planning to send for him, even though he had told Krept & Konan that he wouldn’t.

Krept tweeted on 20th Feb: “No we will not get involved it’s just Chip gave man his word that he wont diss Yungs and then did smh.”

Naturally Yungen pre-recorded his send, watching and waiting for Chip’s ‘One Take’ to drop and asking him on Twitter to remove it giving him hours. Chip refused to budge and Yungen released his diss track ‘Punk (Shitmunk Diss)’.

It didn’t take Chip long to respond. Less than 24 hours later the video to ‘Michelle Riddim (Lil Clive Diss)’ dropped, showing a laid-back Chip on his own in a smoky booth. His portrayed his calmness, showing Yungen didn’t worry him. The video opens with some cuts from an interview of Yungen bigging Chip up.

It seems Sneakbo is possibly taking Chip’s side, aiming tweets at Konan, which is worrying as Sneakbo and Yungen are meant to be friends… I guess we’ll find out more about what’s going on over the next few days.

Sneakbo: “These rappers get signed & become gangster…Go back to uni mate.”

“You don’t want drama pleaseeeeeeeee @konanplaydirty.”

24 hours later… Yungen is back at it with another response titled ‘Oopsy Daisy Riddim’ and he completely controls the track with bars laced with fire and cleverness.

Chip has responded less than 24 hours later now with another diss track ‘L (Lil Clive Diss 2)’. Things are definitely getting very heated now, as the replies are being made rapidly, and there are no signs of either backing down.

Rax

South London rapper Rax took a hiatus from the music game for a while, but now he is back stronger than ever. Gearing up to drop his mixtape Just 4 You on Friday (26th Feb), he has dropped two tracks over the past two weeks; ‘Money Bee’ feat. Zino Brown, Bonkaz and Dee Pee (Section Boyz) and ‘Four Seasons’ feat. Josh Osho. ‘Money Bee’ opened the doors to the full project and showed an energetic track, full of power and bass that’s lyrically tough. ‘Four Seasons’ revealed a different side to Rax with its relaxed, cool and calm vibe, infiltrated with the rapper’s witty bars. It’s infused with warmth, with the soulful vocals of Josh Osho and a sunny Sax. Watch out for the ‘Four Season’ video this week too.

MoStack – Gangsters With Banter

MoStack is a rising rapper from North London who has been creating a nice buzz over the past year, with a bunch of videos being released and collaborations with high profile artists such as Tinie Tempah on his album Junk Food. Last week saw the release of his brand new, highly anticipated mixtape Gangster With Banter with features from Yungen, Sneakbo, J Hus and Stormzy to name a few. Its 21-tracks are packed full of clever bars and a hard, Afrobeat sound combined with UK Rap.

Listen and download here.

He also released an accompanying video from the tape ‘Fuck This Generation (Outro)’. He talks about women, and his life in general, thanking God for another year lived with his family. It showcases his lyrical ability well, and his depth by being able to speak about issues in his generation.

Along with the releases, MoStack also announced his first headline show at the 02 Islington Academy on Thurs 14th April. It will be a night to remember for UK rap fans and will see some very special guests joining him on the stage. Buy your tickets here.

Konan – Last Night In LA

Konan the South London rapper and one half of the rap duo Krept & Konan dropped one of the hottest freestyles ‘Last Night In LA’ as a follow up to Krept’s ‘Last Night In Lagos’. Konan hits us with pure passion and aggression, and of course it’s packed full of wordplay and punchlines. It’s great to see Konan really rip into the track, in one of his coldest to date. To take it all in you may have to rewind the video a few times.

Ocean Wisdom

Out this week is Ocean Wisdom’s debut album Chaos 93 on High Focus Records. It’s produced completely by Dirty Dike, and features from some of UK hip-hop’s finest; Foreign Beggars, Klashnekoff, The Four Owls, Lunar C, Edward Scissortongue & Remus. It’s due to cause some serious damage and be a turning point for hip-hop in the UK. Head over to iTunes now to buy it.

Skrapz

Another show that was announced and one to put in the diary is Skrapz’s ‘The Beginning Of The End’ secret show on Thurs 7th April with support from Nafe Smallz, Mist, Trapstar Toxic and hosted by A Squeezy. See you there!

Pixies Tracks Of The Week @ChaseandStatus @BigFris @Skrapzisback @CraigDavid @bignarstie @Bonkaz @scrufizzer

Chase & Status ft. Frisco – Funny

After announcing their London Bars series which will be released on their label MTA Records, Chase & Status dropped the first track from the series titled “Funny” featuring Boy Better Know’s Frisco. The beat is grimy and Frisco spits fluidly over it. At the end of the video we see Giggs calling the producers, is this them showing us he’s next? It’s a warm up for their fourth studio album, and will see some of the UK’s best MCs working with them on the project.

Skrapz – They Ain’t Ready

Church Road-rapper Skrapz has been doing his thing for a while dropping mixtapes such as “’80s Baby” and “Skrapz Is Back”. He’s warming us up with this brand new track “They Aint Ready” which is on his mixtape out November 13th “The End Of The Beginning” and will see features for high-profile rappers such as Wretch 32, Giggs and his Ice City Boyz comrade Nines.

Craig David x Big Narstie – When The Bassline Drops

Kurupt FM seemed to have kindled a musical bond between Craig David and Big Narstie when they went on 1Xtra for their Sixty Minutes Live session. The two clearly hit it off and went straight into the studio to record a track together. Their both legends in their own right in different areas of dance music and their new tune “When The Bassline Drops” is an absolute banger. It’s got an old skool garage vibe filled with Craig’s smooth vocals and Narstie’s heavy lyricism.

Bonkaz – You Don’t Know

Bonkaz relives the Grime culture he grew up in on his new track “You Don’t Know, sampling one of Grime’s most influential MC’s Dizzee Rascal’s track “Bonkaz”. He pays homage to Kano, More Fire Crew and Channel U amongst others. The video shows a more fun and light-hearted side to the Croydon-born MC and he couldn’t have picked a better-named tune to sample!

Scrufizzer – Rapid Freestyle

Scrufizzer is one of Grime’s fastest flowing lyricist and is impeccable at it. He takes on Rapid’s instrumental to drop nothing but hard bars, repping his ends West London too.
