We Are Fstvl 2014 – Sat Review [Review]

We Are Fstvl took place over the bank holiday weekend of May 24th-25th.  Based in Upminster in Essex, the festival is only in it’s second year. The first day after checking into the hotel and getting to the site we arrived around 4pm, with the sky filled with clouds and rain about to descend we weren’t going to let that ruin our fun. The site itself for the festival had got increasingly bigger, and so it seemed had the VIP where you could go and relax and pamper yourself with MK taking over in the tent.

I spent a lot of my time in the Hospitality tent on the Saturday. Being a D&B fan I got to see some of the best DJ’s play everything from liquid to jump up. I was especially excited to see Shy FX, Friction, High Contrast and Camo & Krooked who played tune after tune mixing in some Grime tunes in the middle such as ‘German Whip’.

I ventured over to Defected In The House too who were really successful at the festival last year made a return where we sam Kenny Dope, Nick Curly, Sam Divine and more spin to a happy and packed crowd. Oliver $’s and Guti got a really good crowd reaction over at Defected.

The two outdoor stages were not affected by the rain and mud as festival goers could not miss the big names headlining at the Big Outdoors – We Are Elctrnc and the Main Stage. We Are Elctrnc saw the likes of Knife Party, Chuckie, Hard Rock Sofa and more take to the stage and make everyone forget about the miserable weather.

The main stage saw brothers Disclosure who have shot to fame play an early set along with heavyweight in the game, Mary Jane Coles. The headline acts Richie Hawtin and Matador closed the main stage leaving the festival goers smiling and ready for day two.

Mumdance (@mumdance) ft Novelist (@Novelist) – Take Time [Music Video]

The Lewisham MC Novelist has been gaining some serious heat around his name and his collaboration with Mumdance will help spread this. Mumdance uses heavy bass shells on this sick beat for Take Time, leaving Novelist to spray over it. This will be on Mumdance’s new EP out June 16th via Rinse.

Coops (@CoopsOfficial) ft Benny Banks & Sophie Faith – So Cold [Music Video]

Coops teams up with Benny Banks and Sophie Faith for this gritty visual off his Lost Soul tape. Coops rhymes over a boom-bap style beats with Benny Banks further complimenting his style as the pair share dark tales from their pasts. With the video itself featuring cameos from Banks, Sophie Faith and Joe Black, we’re left with a cliffhanger that is sure to be continued into the next video.

Red Bull Catwalk Studio Presents: (@nasirmazharldn) x (@Skepta) [News]

This is looking set to be one of the hottest collaborations in music and fashion this year…unfortunately for us girls it’s only menswear (sigh). UK grime’s hot boy Skepta will be teaming up with one of the most exciting menswears designers, Nasir Mazhar which in a few weeks time Red Bull Catwalk Studio will be unveiling for London Collections: Men.

Bursting onto the scene in 2008, Mazhar cut his cloth first and foremost as a milliner and fast became a recognised name with his signature box peak bully cap. In 2012 he launched his first ready to wear collection for SS13 – a mix of mens and womenswear that he presented as part of New Gen. Mazhar consequently moved onto the official catwalk in SS14 and since then has been touted as one of Britains most exiting exciting young designers from everyone from the likes of Vogue to Dazed & Confused.

North London rapper Skepta needs little introduction. One of the original founders of the Boy Better Know crew alongside his brother JME, he is widely considered a UK grime veteran who pushed the genre through from the underground to the mainstream.

The collaboration between the two artists is a natural one with Mazhar using music as an inspiration for his work and specifically grime artists as the musicians of choice to provide the soundtracks to his presentations. The pair have recently been in Red Bull Studios creating a unique soundtrack for the show at Victoria House on Tuesday 17th June, which will also see Skepta walk in a jacket designed in collaboration with Nasir.

Through working with Red Bull Catwalk Studio, Mazhar is able to take his vision to a new level and host his dream after party, a full Nasir experience, at the Metropolis strip club in Bethnal Green. Together with Skepta they are curating their ideal line up featuring an all-star line up of artists – stay tuned for more details to come.

Coops (@CoopsOfficial) – Lost Soul [Mixtape]

I’m making no exaggeration when I say Coops is the North London hip hop artist everyone is talking about. He can already say he has opened for Nas at the 02 in London and his latest video release ‘Blessings’ from the tape was premiered by Vibe in America, Big!

The mix-tape demonstrates the lyrical genius of the 23-year-old and his ability to draw the listener in to every word. His deep and mindful views on his subject matter set on the backdrop of the intricately produced and very musical productions make for a collection of tracks that will give you some real food for thought.

With the majority of the Lost Soul mixtape being produced by Hip-Hop producer, Talos, it is evident that the pair have a real musical understanding of each other resulting in the creation of a fresh, yet deep rooted sound.

Released this week (2nd June) via his own website, the ‘Lost Soul’ mix-tape is a collection of tracks which represent a number of different meanings and emotions, as the title implies.

A.M. SNiPER took to the studio to record new material with non-other than Wiley. A collaboration between ‘King of Ayia Napa’ (as dubbed by RWD Magazine) and the king of Summer hits was destined to result in one thing, a soundtrack for Summer 2014, which is now set for release in July and goes by the name of Bus Pass.

Full of scorching seasonal references, the immediately addictive ‘Bus Pass’ features a huge pop hook courtesy of Wiley with production from Anamate A.M Sniper himself, and if that isn’t enough to make you reach for your passport then check out the video that captures everything your holiday dreams are made of!
