The Sounds Of UK Rap ft. @mrBennyBanks @JoeBlackUK @docbrown88 @Ciz_ER @Sneakbo @Fredo @Bonkaz

Benny Banks x Joe Black – FuckBoys

Two of Islington’s finest rappers return with their brand new video ‘FuckBoys’ – taken from their forthcoming collaborative project BNB – proving their weight in the UK rap game. The brazen track sees the two trade verses with their standout voices, direct deliveries and impenitently real lyrics. The two combined have always posed as a threat to other UK rappers, and their tracks heard from their forthcoming project shows these two are definitely back on their A game and willing to fight for the crown.

Doc Brown – Corruptible

You might know Doc Brown as the stand-up comedy success who talks about being a failing rapper and is currently touring with Ricky Gervais, but actually, he’s really good (at rapping) and his new track ‘Corruptible’ proves it. He’s been spitting for a long time, and his re-entrance into UK hip-hop comes at a perfect time. This track is the first track to be heard off of his forthcoming album Stemma, and comes with a polished black and white visual to match.

C Biz – Super ft 6IXVI, License To Kill & Look At You

C Biz is on one hell of a roll this year, releasing a string of tracks, and in the past two weeks alone has dropped three tracks ‘Super ’ ft 6IXVI, ‘License To Kill,’ and ‘Look At You’ ft. Hurricane.

First up is ‘Super’ produced by The Forbes and shows the North West Londoner rapping over a trap-inspired beat featuring another rapper 6IXVI with both of them barring back to back over verses with bossy, saucy lyrics.

‘License To Kill’ produced by Impack, quite rightly samples Shirley Bassey’s ‘Goldfinger’ keeping in the James Bond theme, but with a trap twist. He delivers his lyrics with confidence and fineness.

‘Look At You’ is the latest to drop and features another £R member Hurricane. This one has is still a trap beat but more lively with the whole tone of the track more lighter than the others. It’s upbeat and C Biz and Hurricane talk about making money amongst other things and being at the top.

Sneakbo – Thank God

Sneakbo gives praise to the most high on new track ‘Thank God,’ which he opens with an interlude from a Tupac recording talking about trusting nobody. It’s a deep track about making it out the ends and how people don’t want to see him make it, and he can’t trust many. The beat has a bashment influence, but nowhere near as bold as what we’re used to. Sneakbo speaks more reflectively and openly about his life: “I thank God for my mum she the man, I give her anything her young boy can. Before it’s too late see I love you mum, daddy left a real woman and she raised a son. Can’t tell nobody bout the things I’ve done, see I’ve had a hard life it was drugs and guns.”

I’ve also got some brand new UK mixtapes for you to check out. First up is from Fredo who has released his brand new project Get Rich Or Get Recalled, which has some cold features from Blade Brown, Donae’O and Ratlin.

Bonkaz has dropped the sequel to his 2011 release Quality Control with Quality Control 2.0.. The project is produced by New Gen’s Soul and Bonkaz released the first video off of it ‘Cash Money’ ft. S Loud.

Pixies Tracks Of The Week @MajorB2DAL @Prez_T @pabbywabby @Wretch32 @Stormzy1 @ClubsandSpades1 @mrbennybanks @JoeBlackUK @Young_Spray @officialchip

Milli Major ft Prez T & Paper Pabs– Shut Down The Dance

‘Shut Down The Dance’ is like a hardcore grime rave tune and it will do what it says in the title when played in a rave/club! This is from Bloodline representative’s Milli Major, Prez T & Paper Pabs who are royalty in the Grime scene. This will be on Milli Major’s forthcoming EP ‘Bloods Thicker Than Water’ set for release 31st May and sees the finest talent on it from D Double E to Flirta D and producers such as Rude Kid and True Tiger.

The Stray Doggz ft Wretch 32 & Stormzy – Skank Out

To be honest I’d never heard of this producer duo before I got sent this track through and this is their debut single ‘Skank Out’ featuring two highly respected artists Wretch 32 & Stormzy. With the ‘woofs’ on the hook incorporated into the lyrics and two of the sickest MC’s at the moment on it, this trap led tune can only mean one thing, a straight up banger! It’s aggression and honesty makes me love it even more..

Clubs & Spades – Deal Or No Deal

‘Deal Or No Deal’ is the first track taken from newcomers Clubs & Spades forthcoming EP of the same name. They may be newcomers as a collective, but make no mistake each of them have been in the music game and had great careers in it already. They blend hip hop, punk and funk where the two producers use live instruments along with the MC’s rapping in their Northern accents which creates a unique sound. This track talks real life issues…

Benny Banks & Joe Black – Know Me From (remix)

Covering Stormzy’s hit track ‘Know Me From’, North London’s Benny Banks and Joe Black who have been in the rap game for quite some time now put their spin on it. They tackle the track with such finesse it’s like it was one of their own! They both are slick lyricists so we expect nothing but fire from them. The two have a joint mixtape dropping soon, which will show definitely bring a lot of heat to the music game this summer.

Young Spray ft Wretch 32 & Chip – Proud

North London MC’s Young Spray, Wretch 32 and Chip join together for new track ‘Proud’ which is a introspective track of how they grew up. It’s shows Wretch & Young Spray’s journey as they spit while Chip handles the hook, where they look back at their hard lives growing up, where they are at now and what it took to get there. It’s personable, heartfelt and deep and the kind of rap I like.

Pixie’s Tracks Of The Week (@Skepta) (@Footsie) (@Sneakbo) (@ArdAdz) (@ShoShallow) (@_BushObama )

From last week here are the 5 best tracks, which of course includes Skepta’s ‘Shutdown’ and Sneakbo’s mixtape ‘JetSkiWave 2’ with both releases shutting the internet down …

 Skepta – Shutdown

Of course this has to be the biggest track from last week. With pretty much no lead up to it, Skepta premiered his brand new track ‘Shutdown’ on The Fader. His name has the biggest hype around it at the moment, from shows in New York to joining Kanye West on stage with other Grime artists at the Brits, and now reportedly working with Kanye in the studio. This will be on his forthcoming ‘Konnichiwa’ album where we can expect bigger and better music still to come.

Footsie – Straight Loco

Another Grime don is next up and that is Footsie from the Newham Generals, who released this track as a solo one. ‘Straight Loco’ brings a hard, Grime beat produced by G Jones allowing Footsie to flow in his style known to most Grime heads. This is the 2nd release from his forthcoming project, so keep your eyes and ears locked…

Sneakbo – Rap Like Dat ft Grizzy & Frass

So Sneakbo dropped his ‘JetSkiWave 2’ mixtape on Saturday hosted by the veteran US DJ Whoo Kid and setting the internet alight with it also trending on Twitter. This tape saw fans in the likes of Wretch 32, Chip, Krept and more all tweeting it. ‘Rap Like Dat’ video also dropped a few days before from the tape warming up his fans for the full 22 track tape. Watch the video below and download the mixtape by clicking here

Ard Adz & Sho Shallow ft Jaja Soze – Thoughts

Haven’t heard much from Brixton’s Ard Adz & Sho Shallow from a while, but the two rappers return with this one featuring PDC’s Jaja Soze for ‘Thoughts’. This is an emotive, deep track with all three spitting a verse each about the streets in Brixton where they are all from and their life experiences. They all complete each other with their varied deliveries but similar subjects.

Bush ft Benny Banks – Own Path

Bush is a rapper that’s new to my ears. I came across him after the release of his debut mixtape ‘Driven 2 Success’ which dropped on 23rd February. ‘Own Path’ is the 3rd video release from the project and sees him dropping some motivational bars over a melodic beat. Benny Banks drops a hard verse for Bush’s track adding more inspiration to the track. These two make a sick team! Download Bush – Driven 2 Success by clicking here

Coops (@CoopsOfficial) ft Benny Banks & Sophie Faith – So Cold [Music Video]

Coops teams up with Benny Banks and Sophie Faith for this gritty visual off his Lost Soul tape. Coops rhymes over a boom-bap style beats with Benny Banks further complimenting his style as the pair share dark tales from their pasts. With the video itself featuring cameos from Banks, Sophie Faith and Joe Black, we’re left with a cliffhanger that is sure to be continued into the next video.

Coops (@CoopsOfficial) – Lost Soul [Mixtape]

I’m making no exaggeration when I say Coops is the North London hip hop artist everyone is talking about. He can already say he has opened for Nas at the 02 in London and his latest video release ‘Blessings’ from the tape was premiered by Vibe in America, Big!

The mix-tape demonstrates the lyrical genius of the 23-year-old and his ability to draw the listener in to every word. His deep and mindful views on his subject matter set on the backdrop of the intricately produced and very musical productions make for a collection of tracks that will give you some real food for thought.

With the majority of the Lost Soul mixtape being produced by Hip-Hop producer, Talos, it is evident that the pair have a real musical understanding of each other resulting in the creation of a fresh, yet deep rooted sound.

Released this week (2nd June) via his own website, the ‘Lost Soul’ mix-tape is a collection of tracks which represent a number of different meanings and emotions, as the title implies.

MTV The Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

I’m back after a short hiatus and the bank holiday weekend to bring you guys what’s been going on in the world of UK rap every week. I’m going to kick things off with talking about G Frsh’s new video ‘Falling High’. Now you have probably heard the song as it was heard on Radio 1 tastemaker shows such as Zane Lowe and Mistajam. Shot in black and white in an East London undertakers bodes well with the whole feel and lyrics of the track, while helping us understand G Frsh and his journey. The track features his fellow Disturbing London label mateSonny Reeves, who provides the hook.

These boys are really something special when it comes to music, and they are called the Rascals. Made up of four lads Kay Willz, Big Shizz, Tempz and Merkz, all in their teens and who gained their first successes at the ages of 12 and 13. They recently released their ‘Class 90’ album, which was an absolute smash and featured some of the best UK talent such as Big NarstieSqueeksDru BluDouble S and more. They return after not long with a brand-new single called ‘So High’ which was given it’s first spin by Zane Lowe and is due for release on June 15.

Brixton’s Peak is one hardworking man, and the grind doesn’t stop when it comes to releasing EP’s, mixtapes, and videos. As well as his consistency, his tracks are quality too, which means he is a super-talented dude! This new track is the first I believe to be heard from his forthcoming tape ‘Brixton State Of Mind’, giving us a glimpse of what to expect. Google Peak ‘Say About Me’ to listen to this new one.

Original Triple Darkness founding member Melanin 9 is due to re-release his 2007 mixtape ‘High Fidelity’ strictly on vinyl on his own ‘Red Snow’ label. He will also add the instrumentals to the tracks, with new artwork and a bonus cut ‘Colours’ produced by Loopholes. As well as adding the bonus track he also shot a video to ‘Colours’, adding some new freshness to the whole project.

Clothing brand Supply & Demand launched a competition a few months back where they asked the public to vote for a song for five British artists which they would then go on to shoot a music video for. They decided on ‘See Me Now’ for Benny Banks featuring Ryan Keen. The video was released last week and for me really showed Banks development as an artist and lyricist; his real life raps seemed more knowledgeable and the sound matured.

Until next time…

Benny Banks (@mrBennyBanks) Ft. Ryan Keen – See Me Now

I’m liking this new one from Benny Banks and we can see his evolution on this one, keeping his real life raps but in a more experienced and grown up way.

MTV The Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

There has been a lot of positive stuff going off this week in the world of UK rap. Firstly on Tuesday Team Wrap Up headed down to the MOBO Nominations launch where we saw performances from So Solid Crew and heard that AkalaK KokeWretch 32 were up for Best UK hip hop/grime act. Who do you think deserves to win? I know personally who I do…

Krept & Konan are the names on everyone’s lips right now as their ‘Young Kingz’ mixtape dropped and entered the UK official album charts at No.19, a huge, game changing achievement. They had a lot of tweets congratulating them from SkeptaZeon Richards, Fekky, and more. They were also nominated for best newcomers at the MOBO’s so get over to their site and make sure you vote for them. Check out their new video from the tape ‘Too Young’ featuring Yungen which is their third video from the mixtape to be released.

There were a few freestyles out last week that I recommend checking out. Firstly check out the Daily Duppy from Krept & Konan which saw Krept spitting over The Fugees’ ‘Ready Or Not’ instrumental, then Konan taking over with a more upbeat track. Mike GLC took to SB.TV to put out his second 3rd Degree with no instrumental just him talking straight reality.

Colours and Benny Banks took to Link-Up TV for a Behind Barz session. Colours showed impressive lyricism spitting over Jim Jones ‘Summer In Miami’. Benny made his return for the third time with his laid back flow over a funky, hip-hop beat.

Talking of Benny Banks him and Squeeks who were meant to be friends and are both from Islington, North London have took to Twitter dissing each other. Squeeks tweeted ‘The boy ain’t real & from time he signed 1 2 deals I can’t ere from n****s simple really that’s why I be like #F***Banks’. He then went onto say without him, Joe Black and Westy Beats Banks would be nothing. Banks last tweet on the matter was ‘Thank God for my haters!’

The only video really worth mentioning this week is Giggs new one ‘(Is It Gangsta) Yes Yes Yes’. The 9 minute long video featured some of his SN1 crew. Giggs is upping the levels in the UK rap game, everyone take notice.

Boom Bap Festival is on in a few weeks from the 13-15 September in Peterborough and I headed down to the warm up party at Vibe Bar on Saturday where I saw legends in the game Chester P and Micall Parkinson perform. If you missed it you missed out on seeing two of the best lyricists from the UK, so make sure you head down to the festival itself.

MTV Wrap Up – UK Rap Rundown [News]

Spit TV brought to you by We Hustle TV re-launched last Sunday on Channel AKA – it began about ten years ago on Channel U, before the days of Youtube and Twitter. This is where the best emcess from the UK are invited to spit for around three minutes. Ras Kwame the host described it as ‘one take, one mic, one spit’. Link-Up TV released a behind-the-scenes video along with the visuals for the Eurogang and Frisco freestyles. Look forward to seeing the likes of Benny BanksJoe BlackGekoGriminalScrufizzerCoops and many more…

An array of some of the hottest UK grime and rap emcees come together for the remix of Lethal Bizzle’s ‘They Got It Wrong’ originally featuring WileyKrept & KonanKano and Squeeksjumped on the remix to make it an all-star cast.

Another remix to drop last week was Sneakbo’s ‘Ring A Ling’ which saw Wiley and Krept & Konan give the Brixton rapper some heavy-duty verses on his next summer club banger. Expect to see a video for this one soon, as the track is released in July.

Young Spray reminds people that Northstar are originals in new track ‘Pull Your Pants Up’. “Only saw So Solid’s before the North Star Chain, only knew PDC when North Chain came. I saw the best come and go; the rest are dumb and slow.” He also shows respect to GiggsBlade Brown and Asher D in the track.

Shak Corleone released the video to ‘Voice Of The Streets’ from his latest mixtape ‘Purgatory’. The Brixton rapper keeps it 100% road rap with the track featuring Lil Torment, Skore Beezy and Don Slice who all spit hard street bars.

PW is definitely a rapper who has a lot of heat surrounding him right now with a lot of co-signs from DappyCover Drive and The Saturdays. His latest release ‘From PW With Love’ was well received and last week saw him drop the visuals to featured track ‘Here With You’.

UK rap veteran Mike GLC was the next up on SB.TV for his 3rd Degree freestyle. He spits over some classic joints with his effortless flow, showing people how it’s done.

Benny Banks gave us the visuals to track ‘48 Freestyle 1&2’ off his new mixtape ‘Patiently Waiting Vol 2’ which is available to download for free. The two laid back instrumentals allow for Benny to drop his classic relaxed flows which he is known for.
