The Sounds Of UK Rap @HazeTheTruth @SnapCapone @stefflondon @MicRighteous @Sneakbo @SectionBoyz_

I’m here to bring you the latest and greatest tracks from the world of UK rap. From Haze’s short film and forthcoming album, to Mic Righteous and news of an independent artist signing to a major label…

Haze

Haze is a seasoned hip-hop artist hailing from Croydon. His career began in 2007 with the release of Once Upon A Time, which included a collaboration with SAS, but he’s since worked with Harlem legend Max B, and American producer Harry Fraud. He’s known for pushing boundaries and has been a strong influence on UK hip-hop culture. His new project sees him presenting his music in a more visual way by releasing a short film to accompany his new album. Thinking Out Loud is the title of the short film and 21-track album, both set for release on May 16th. The album will feature Akala, J Spades, Maverick Sabre and Black The Ripper. Haze introduced the project with the video for ‘You Don’t Know Me’, produced by Edixion Beats, giving his fans an insight into the themes that will be uncovered with the full project.

The film will preview on May 11th at Vue Cinema in Westfield, Stratford and you can buy your tickets by heading here.

Snap Capone

Snap Capone is one of the UK’s most respected rappers and for good reason – starting out as a teenager and gaining acknowledgment in ’09/’10 releasing freestyles and mixtapes as part of the S.I group, they became a pretty instant underground hit. In 2013, his debut mixtape Return Of The Shooter was released and ever since he’s dropped enough projects to firmly secure his position as one of the hardest UK rappers around. We saw the release of the visuals for ‘The Rain’ featuring Dex Man taken from his January 2016 mixtape The Gift & The Curse. The video doesn’t have Snap in due to him being incarcerated but shows another individual playing him. The two rappers take the introspective route lyrically over a soulful, hip-hop beat. Shot on a block, Dex Man raps, “had a bit of hunger, I started getting paid,” taking us through a snapshot of his life. Snap’s verse starts off about his adult lifestyle, “playing in the rain rose gold chain,” and then goes back to his childhood, “I remember playing knock down ginger in them hallways,” in this lyrically hard tune.

Stefflon Don

Stefflon Don has been creating waves in the scene, especially this past year with her remix of tracks such as ‘Lock Arff’ with Inch from Section Boyz, Rae Sremmurd’s ‘No Type’, and Rihanna’s ‘Work’, where she joined forces with Sneakbo to make it their own. She comes hard with her new track ‘Hot Prop’ over a Zeph Ellis-produced track. The visuals are as dope and icy as her bars and really match her hard-edged lyrics and the beat. Her delivery is as powerful and strong as her bars, “don’t ask me no questions, don’t mention my name in your sentence, there’s levels I don’t see progression.” Her image on the main screen in Piccadilly Circus might prove to be a prediction for where she’s headed.

Mic Righteous

Mic Righteous is known for his lyrically hard-hitting, conscious, and sometimes emotional tracks. He’s been compared to U.S rappers DMX and Eminem thanks to his ability to provoke emotion through his storytelling abilities and the delivery in his tracks. He’s been a bit quiet as of late, but that’s because he’s been working on his debut album. We’ve been given a track off of the album, ‘When I Die’ feat. Daf Evan, with visuals to match. The track is the official soundtrack to a new UK indie film out now called Hard Tide. We can see clips of the film in the visuals along with Mic Righteous and his feature singer shot in his hometown of Margate. This is an inspiring and empowering track about going for your dreams and believing in yourself, but also the trials that we have to go through. “I believe I can see my dreams, I close my eyes I’m going blind.” The ambient, melodic beat matches Mic’s bars and Daf Evan’s soulful tones.

In Other News

Sneakbo has signed a deal with Virgin EMI after being an independent artist for 6 years. He’s dropped chart-topping tracks as well as street tracks and future classic mixtapes such as Jetski Wave. Hopefully this deal will take his career to the next level, and see him get the success he fully deserves.

Section Boyz have linked up with one of the biggest names in R&B, Chris Brown, for his new single ‘Whippin.’ Swift from Section Boyz tweeted “Mummy thinks I’m lying about having a song with Chris Brown.” It was quite a surprising collaboration when we got a little preview of it early in April on Chris’ Instagram page It’s taken from the recently released joint mixtape between Chris Brown and OHB, Before Da Trap.

My BET 2013

I’m back after a very busy but four fun filled days in LA covering the BET Awards. Arriving after an 11 hour flight on Thursday 27th June, we headed out to the infamous Hooters restaurant in Hollywood to grab some food. We then headed to Couture nightclub for a few hours just off the main Hollywood strip to check out the LA night time scene.

Friday was an extremely busy day as we headed towards the Staples/Nokia Theatre to pick up our credentials and then headed back to the hotel to get ready for the late afternoon international party on the rooftop of the Marriott hotel. After relaxing there with a few cheeky free drinks we were given two GOLD free tickets to watch Beyonce at the Staples Centre next door. Not bad! Her performance was incredible as expected for the 1st show of her North American leg of her tour.

Leaving at 11pm, with the area being so busy, we got the Metro a few stops to Hollywood/Vine where the BET experience Kick Off Party was, hosted at the Drais Nightclub on the rooftop of the W Hotel complete with a pool. Celebrities in attendance were producer duo Da Internz, LoveRance, upcoming rapper Problem, Miley Cyrus who walked in behind us, and too many more to name.

Saturday was time for a bit of relaxation as the BET’s were the next day and we hadn’t stopped since we got there. We headed down to Santa Monica beach had some nice food at Bubba Gump’s and lay on the beach for a few hours.

Sunday was the day of the BET Awards. Arriving at 12.30pm to check in for the red carpet it was extremely hot around 34c. Luckily it started to cloud over as we were standing outside till 4pm. The first artist to walk down was Trinidad James, although he didn’t stop for many press and wasn’t looking too happy! I spoke to celebrities 2 Chainz, French Montana, Tyson Beckford, Bridget Kelly, Robert Townsend, Elijah Blake, Elephant Man, DJ Drama, Marsha Ambrosius, Jamie Foxx and more. We also spotted Pharrell, Chris Brown, J Cole, Neyo, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose, Ashanti, Kendrick Lemar, Yo Gotti and Gabrielle Union.

The official after party was hosted at the Belasco Theatre a 5 minute drive for the Nokia Theatre where the awards were held. Nick Cannon, Jerimah, Problem and Chris Brown were all in attendance and set to perform. Other stars in attendance were Tyga, DJ Drama who did a set, Bridget Kelly, Elijah Blake and more. We partied there for a few hours and left around 2.30am as we had a flight to catch the next day.

MTV Wrap Up – LIVE REVIEW: BET AWARDS – L.A (JULY 1, 2012)

The stars and power couples were out in full force at the BET Awards 2012. As I hit the red carpet on a hot day in L.A, I found myself next to hip-hop websites World Star Hip Hop, This is 50 and others. Opening the show dressed in an all-white suit, Kanye West came on stage with some of his G.O.O.D Music crew including, 2 Chainz and Pusha T…

Big Sean also joined Kanye on stage for their track ‘Mercy’ which saw Kim Kardashian give a standing ovation, dressed in a white dress to match her rapper boyfriend.

Host Samuel L Jackson gave us laughs throughout the night doing skits with various people – Spike Lee also joined him to do a reenactment of ‘N***as In Paris’, making everyone laugh. Most of the celebrities I spoke to on the red carpet were excited to see Samuel L Jackson host the awards; whoever hosts next year will have a lot of live up to.

Nicki Minaj’s performance was pretty toned down as she came on stage dressed in a nice black outfit, which was not flamboyant as I would have expected. Nicki performed ‘Beez In The Trap.’

D’Angelo later came on stage performing ‘How Does It Feel’, moving on to play the piano for the next track. He was looking very much like a rockstar and was rocking out on stage like one too.

Mike Epps and Mindless Behaviour gave out the award for Best Female R&B Artist which saw Mike Epps teasing the young boyband about their age before Beyoncé was announced the winner. The stunning mama dedicated it to Whitney Houston, who she described as ‘my angel’ whilst also shouting out Lauryn Hill and Mary J Blige.

Kevin Hart introduced the mighty Maybach Music onto the stage before popping a few jokes about Jay-Z and Talib Kweli. Wale was first out as he hopped out of a car on stage and was joined by Rick Ross for ‘Bag Of Money’. Meek Mill and French Montana also joined them as they tore down the stage.

Nicki Minaj aimed to shock as Busta Rhymes presented her with her award for Best Female Hip-Hop artist – she thanks her Barbz and the BET Awards before telling haters (presumably) to “suck a d*** b****!”

Chris Brown’s performance was a very highly anticipated one for the night; given the release of his recent diss track. He came on the stage to perform ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ and ‘Turn Up The Music’ topless with half of his body painted in silver. The stage set-up also came complete with ballerinas dancing in masks!

Tyrese and Ginuwine came backstage, discussing ‘real R&B music’ and chatting about how ‘it’s not house or techno’; they added that this is why ‘they are bringing it back’. Spectators saw this as a dig at Breezy, who picked up the Best Male R&B artist award.

Mariah Carey came out to open the Whitney Houston tribute and said ‘the last time I saw her we were in London. I miss my friend, I miss hearing her voice, and laughter,’ at which point she started to cry. The star managed to compose herself to finish her speech. We also saw Brandy sing ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

YMCMB’s Tyga came out to perform ‘Rack City’ and Nicki Minaj was standing up dancing to her friend’s track to show her support.

Whilst Chris was at the show with YMCMB members Nicki and Tyga, Drake was absent. A source told Hollywood Life: “Everytime MC Lyte mentions that p***y Drake’s name, this whole f**king place is filled with boos. The boos came from people backstage, including Chris’s entourage and also from lots of people in the audience.”

We also saw the cutest couple in the world Jay-Z and Beyoncé play fighting, much to the amusement of the audience, when Jay won the award for Best Video Of The Year with ‘Otis’ – an award that the Queen B was also nominated for.

Big winners of the night were Jay-Z and Kanye who, of course, won Best Video and Best Group. Nicki Minaj won Best Female Hip Hop Artist whilst her buddy Drake won Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. Beyoncé won two awards, one for directing a video and one for Best Female R&B Artist. Wretch 32 repped for the UK, winning the Best International Act award for us.

Chris Brown “I Don’t Like (Remix)” (Drake Diss)

Chris Brown fires this track which is obviously meant for Drake on the Game’s remix of Chief Keef’s I Don’t Like. It’s quite humorous with Breezy dissing Drake’s eyebrows on the track. Check out a verse and the track below…

“A fuck ni**a, that’s that shit I don’t like/ They throwin’ bottles, I’m throwin’ models, just ’cause I give a bitch long pipe. Doing shows on the soccer field/ that’s dome right? I be singin’, he be singin’, so it’s on, sight/ But hold up, I ain’t give a ni**a no green light/ This head up, my bread up, one-on-one, what you scared, bruh?/ Matter fact, take care bruh, you a pu**y ni**a/ My ni**a Tunechi, yeah that ni**a nice/ Shout out to Nicki, man that ass tight/ Them eyebrows, man, them shits is yikes/ OVO, you overdosed, screamin’ YOLO no, I live twice.”

Chris Brown – Countdown

Chris Brown is keeping busy lately with loads of new releases, the latest being Countdown which will probably be on his upcoming mixtape.
