Lady Lykez – What Are Those!

Lady Lykez takes to the streets of London, Oxford St with DJ Melody Kane for a fun-filled video for new track ‘What Are Those!’ It features a verse from a familiar face from Fire Camp, Face who proceeds to give the track a different edge to it. It’s full of humour and clever wordplay and is co-produced by Lykez herself and Elliot Bradley.

Sticky Blood ft. LDizz – Hop In The Place

Go-to producers Sticky Blood who hail from Sheffield drop a brand new track ‘Hop In The Place’ ft. another Steel City representative LDizz. The new generation Grime MC brings an anthemic chorus and melodic flows coupled with the Grime x Trap vibes and deep bass it unites for one heavy, summertime track.

Chase & Status ft. Novelist – NRG

We heard the audio of this track back in April, and now we get the visuals to boot of the high octane ‘NRG’ track. The electronic music duo are joined by South London Grime MC Novelist who powers through the track with confidence and fire. You’ll be able to catch this on Chase & Status  fourth studio forthcoming album. Until then watch the intense video below.

Massappeals ft. Mez – Wheel

Midlands producer Massappeals is on a mission to bring out tracks with Midlands based MC’s. The first one to be released from this is ‘Wheel’ and features an exciting MC, Mez from Nottingham who adds his energetic flows and mean lyrics to the already hype, and soon to be club banger. Watch out from more of these tracks from Massappeals to come with artists such as Snowy.

So Solid ft. Swiss, Asher D, Mega – Baking

So Solid veterans Swiss, Asher D and Mega join together for new track ‘Baking.’ The three drops some solid bars with unmatchable flows over a Dexplicit produced beat. Watch the energetic video to the catchy track below.

Pixies Tracks Of The Week @LadyLykez @CourtneyLDN @JammerBBK @AR15UK @JusRival

Lady Lykez – Chat To Your Man

Lady Lykez the cheeky female MC drops another fun and serious track at the same time, with a lyrical onslaught but with a positive message at it’s core. The dynamic Lykez is one of the only artists who can convey a strong message and still keep it light-hearted. She tells a story of different women all involved with the same man, she tells them they shouldn’t be fighting with each other but should be joining together. Lykez will be clashing Sox on Lord Of The Mics this month at the live show, 23rd of September at 02 Islington Academy so make sure you catch her down there!

Courtney Bennett – Motives

Courtney Bennett released the audio to her debut, self-penned single ‘Motives’ off her forthcoming EP ‘HE(art) Dealer’. The singer/songwriter/rapper has built her name in music circles and has fans in artists such as Jhene Aiko, M.I.A, Big Sean, Missy Elliot, Erykah Badu and Raekwon already. She found her Youtube presence growing after covering and interpreting classic and modern hits and now has a following with over 5 million hit and 60,000 subscribers! Listen to the futuristic synths with Courtney’s elegant tone on ‘Motives’.

Jammer – Royal Rumble

Boy Better Know’s Jammer has brought the old skool Grime vibe officially back with new track ‘Royal Rumble’, which captures what Grime was about in it’s origins with some of the scene’s most legendary MC’s; Jammer, D Double E, Footsie, Lethal B, Hype, Blacks, Jendort, Shorty, Bruza, Ears, Face and Royal. Produced by Mystry the MC’s go in hard with 13 straight back to back pure, hype, unadulterated bars. The track was created in celebration of 10 years of Lord Of The Mics and has definitely done it justice to the fullest.

AR15 Presents Can’t See Me Again ft Skepta, Bashy & Kano

The biggest rap album to ever be seen or heard out of the UK dropped last Friday 28th August on iTunes. AR15 Presents ‘Concrete Jungle’ sees over 50 of the cream of the crop of UK rappers from Grime and UK rap team up for 16 exclusive tracks and unseen collabs. ‘Can’t See Me Again’ the latest track off of the mixtape sees three Grime originators come together to exchange verses about their lives, the changes, letting go of the past and moving on for the better.

Rival – Victory Interlude

East London Grime MC Rival has dropped another winning track ahead of his debut album release.  He connects well with the down tempo, CRT produced track and talks about never giving up and how he is so close to making it. This won’t be on the album, but it’s definitely warming us up for it!

Lady Lykez (@LadyLykez) – Nobody Can [Audio + Music Video]

The scene definitely needed a shake up and Lady Lykez has certainly caused a commotion with Nobody Can a track about being boxed in as a ‘female’ MC category and taking shots at males in the scene saying she can do what they can and do it better from Wretch 32 to Stormzy, P Money, Big Narstie and more. I hope one of them are brave enough to speak up…

Camden Crawl 2014 [Review]

SBTV‘s Shireen Fenner headed to this year’s Camden Crawl festival over the weekend to catch all of the action…

Camden Crawl took place last weekend Friday 20th and Saturday 21st June across many bars and venues. First up on Friday was rising R&B singer Raheem Bakare who played at the Monarch. He wowed the audience with his stunning vocals from his recent EP AWOL as well as covering Sam Smith’s Stay With Me. It wasn’t just me blown away by this future superstar, everyone was captivated as we also all sung along to Bob Marley with Raheem.

Ghetts was up next with his live band and he performed to the packed pub with such raw energy, it was hard to not enjoy his performance. filled with such vigor and freshness. He was joined by Rival, a highly rated MC who performed collaborative track Said To Me with Ghetts, also bursting with liveliness. Ghett’s performed tracks off his album such as Gas Mark 9 leaving us all on a high.

Next stop was Underworld to watch UK rap favourites Krept & Konan. It was disappointing not to see the venue full for them, as these two deserved, but they gave it their all performing their hit Don’t Waste My Time and other tracks off their recently released and critically acclaimed Young King mixtape. DJ Target took over on the decks now to play a mixture of tunes, and Manga joined him on hosting duties keeping the crowd lively.

Itch FM and Big Promo’s Thad Boogie put on a great stage at the Beatrice on the Saturday night. I arrived first to see the rapper everyone is talking about Little Simz. She just released her EP, E.D.G.E, which she showcased some tracks and showed newbies to Simz why she is next in line to blow. Her confidence along with her unique voice, skippy flow and bouncy energy got everyone listening.

Lady Lykez was up next on the same stage, and the North London had the most vivacity of the night. She was like a lioness on stage, encouraging the audience to bounce along with her and chant her lyrics back, she has fantastic stage presence performing tracks such as, I Love My Butt, which celebrates body image, Eurgh and Psycho her recent release which explores dynamics in relationships.

Emily Rawson and Big Ted were at their usual spot in Camden, the Jazz Café where they put on regular hip hop night ‘Supa Dupa Fly’. Here, we checked out Blizzard. With just himself and a keyboard (yes, he plays), along with his charm, he took to the stage performing his own tracks and getting the crowd to sing along to tracks such as Wilkinson’s Afterglow. Our favourite bit of his set was a rendition of Tracey Chapman’s Fast Car nameed Megabus, which was an extremely witty and funny track about the struggles of his journeys from Manchester to London.

Next up, Mumdance and Novelist took it up a notch as it got to that time of the night where we wanted to dance and that is just what we did. Performing at KOKO, Novelist really impressed us with his ability to control the audience and keep them entertained, as well as Mumdance’s too. They both held their own, with Mumdance displaying his unique, futuristic sounds.

Last but not least was Plastician, who had us raving our hearts out to his set. As a pioneer in the scene, we wouldn’t have expected any less than what he gave us switching up between dubstep and grime and a little of something inbetween.

All in all, it was a great weekend for fantastic music, as Ghett’s told us, ““Camden Crawl was one of my best gigs to date, really looking forward doing it again next year. It’s a great festival for introducing new talent into the London scene”. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves  (obviously not the performing part, but, hey, you never know!)

Lady Lykez (@LadyLykez) – Psycho [Music Video]

Lady Lykez releases the explosive new single Psycho which explores the emotions in a relationship, love and hate. Rather than being opposites they are seen as strong passions, they can shade into each other with little warning; something that both guys and ladies can relate to.  Lykez captures this dangerous proximity between the passions perfectly with her exhilarating lyrics and draws on her ‘inner psycho’ for the video.

Lady Lykez the confident, edgy and talented rapper is back to present her skill, as a cultured lyricist, on brand new track, Rosa Parks. Released via CTRL Records and co-produced by Lady Lykez, Rosa Parks has a heavy, bass-filled Hip-Hop beat featuring classic old school synths. MTV The Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

The MOBO’s returned to Glasgow for their 18th year and we had some commendable winners. On Saturday we saw a duo that have kept a lot of people talking this year and had huge achievements winning best newcomers, well done to Krept & Konan for their award it was truly deserved. The best male award went to the Godfather of Grime, Wiley who this year dropped an album and too many tracks to name showing his incredible work rate. Best hip hop/grime went to Tinie Tempah who will be releasing his ‘Demonstration’ album very soon.

Speaking of Krept & Konan last week they dropped the video to one of their bangers off the ‘Young Kingz’ mixtape. ‘Young N Reckless’ features North London emcee Chip. They recently performed a sold out show in the 02 Islington Academy and have another nearly sold out show coming up in December.

Chip returned to LA to continue work on his third studio album. The first day he was back he put on Instagram a picture of himself with Busta Rhymes. Maybe we can expect collaboration there. Chip’s always kept himself in the public eye, whether it’s freestyles, his tracks, collaborations or through other paths he knows how to keep his name relevant. On Friday he showed us his take on Drake’s ‘Pound Cake’ telling people this is he is still growing as an artist and there is more to come.

S.A.S took it down a completely different route to what we normally hear from them as we were introduced to a new track from them ‘Better Than This’. The two brothers Mega and Mayhem took it down a dubstep route with the beat for this track. What do you think?

Lady Lykez made a quick return after her track which tore up the airways ‘I Love My Butt’. ‘Rosa Parks’ is the newest one from the fiery emcee who recently flew to Atlanta to perform at the AC3 Festival representing the Best British talent. She shows off her more cultured side to a woman who inspires her and shows off her skippy flow for this edgy track.

P Money dropped a banger last week titled ‘Round The Clock’. A hip-hop beat overlaid with metal comes from Loadstar, with P’s familiar voice giving a warning, “If you want it you can get it / But be careful when you get it”. As usual he rides the beat effortlessly in true P Money style.

MTV The Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

There was very sad news last week that the young and talented emcee Depzman aged 18 was killed outside a nightclub in Birmingham. He was at the venue because of an event honouring another knife victim Kyle Sheehan who was stabbed to death last year.

A lot of people were stunned and deeply saddened by the news about the murder of the Invasion Crew MC with Skepta saying “So full of life, so hype, he could never be in a room and you not know he’s there, SICK MC, overly loved and looked out for his people Heavy black heartHeavy black heartHeavy black heart” and fellow Invasion Crew member Jaykae “I can’t stop crying I jus wanna wake up and wish this is all a dream I love you so much ‪@DepzmanInvasion.” Two men have reportedly handed themselves in to the police. RIP.

There were two fantastic Fire In The Booth’s that came out last week. The first one comes from one of the most on fire emcee’s in the game right now, Lady Lykez. She goes in so hard, showcasing her multi-dimensional flow and lyrics proving why she is one to keep an eye on.

The second one came from The Movement consisting of Ghetts, Scorcher, Wretch 32 and Mercston who reunited after years. Unfortunately there was no Devlin to be seen but it was good to see them back together again after six years. They took it old school with their bars and flow think Wretch in Combination Chain Gang.

GekoUSG’s youngest in charge released his first official single ‘Heartless’ last week, which went to no.12 in the iTunes chart. He dropped the video the next day and it landed on respected American hip-hop site HipHopDX, proving that good UK rap can be embraced by the US. ‘Heartless’ is a love story but not quite a nice one as it tells the story of the woman with a broken heart.

Squeeks kept things moving last week as he released the video to ‘My Scars’ produced by Westy, taken off his recently released huge 40-track mixtape ‘Presidental Musiq’. Squeeks shows off his gentle side in this one for his main squeeze.

Speaking of Squeeks since his falling out with Benny Banks that became public knowledge, there may be a collaboration between him and K Koke on the cards after he tweeted “RT IF YOU WANA SEE ME DO A TUNE WITH ‪@KokeUSG”.
