MTV The Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

This week is all about the Lord Of The Mics release and all last week we saw it being talked about everywhere on the social networks and blogs and sites supporting the movement started by Ratty and Jammer…
The press launch party also took place last week, which saw press being invited down to watch the clashes before the release and everyone talking about their opinions of who won. Some of the opinions were quite definite, others were hard to tell. Now its out, I’m sure a lot of you have watched it, what do you think?
The Allstars track was also unleashed on radio and on Soundcloud for us to hear and featured Jammer, Maxsta, Big Shizz, Blizzard, Lil Nasty, Realz, D2, Lil Choppa and Zeo. Check it out now!
Goldie 1’s name has been popping up this year quite a lot on the rap circuit and I definitely like his style, he’s brought something different to the table. A very trappy style which features two of my favourites who are just getting bigger and better and have had an incredible year Sho Shallow and Ard Adz and also a strong verse from Ayo Beatz.
Two South London rappers join forces for this new club banger which sees Ghost from Squeeze 4 Ps collaborate with SN1’s Giggs. The two deliver some hard bars over a dark instrumental. Look out for more to come from Ghost next year.
One of Grime’s hardest duo’s the Newham Generals last week dropped another video this one entitled ‘Passion.’ The track was premiered on Mistajam’s show on 1Xtra recently with the video being released soon after last week and shows the General’s passion for Grime still.
Alwayz Recording artist Yellows brought out his ‘Yellows Pages 2’ EP and we should be expecting more visuals from it very very soon. The mixtape sees collaborations from Sneakbo, Paigey Cakey, Fuze BW and more. Make sure you go and get that now.

Last week I attended Lil Nasty’s ‘Nasty Piece Of Work’ EP launch at Silk Club in Camden. The EP itself will be available to buy on iTunes on December 16. Lil Nasty, Flirta D and Jammer performed for us on the night.
On the subject of grime last week saw a few of the Lord Of The Mics hype sessions being released including the ‘headline’ clash between Lil Nasty and Maxsta. We also saw Grimmy and Grim Sickers, D2 and Eyez, Proton and Realz, Lil Choppa and Zeo’s hype sessions. More should be dropping next week.
Two of the finest South London rising rappers Dru Blu and Fekky came together for a collaboration on Dru Blu’s recent album ‘Double Or Nothing’. Last week they released the video to this banger which sees Dru delivering some of his hardest bars and Fekky’s classic ad libs.
I talked about the release of Murda’s mixtape ‘A Brick From The Block’ a few weeks ago so if you missed that and want to see what he’s about go and get that now. Last week he also dropped a video from the tape titled ‘Murda’ where he talks through his experiences for this street track.
Next up we have more artists from South London, an area that’s always been strong in the UK rap game. Brixton’s DVS, Syikes and Naja (Mr Sozah) headed down to Westwood’s crib to showcase some new fiery hot bars for this outstanding freestyle.
More fire from Brixton this one called the ‘A Town Line Up’ and sees C1z (A Money and Lil Trev), Sneakbo, Lil Shak, Ribbz, Mr Sozah, Crazy, Feel Fr33 and more. The ten minute track sees them all spitting some hardcore bars on this ten minute long track. Make sure you go and check out this talent from Angel Town.
Musically he’s been quiet for a little while now not having released any tracks of his own. Last week Ex from USG took to Twitter to release two unheard tracks on his Soundcloud ‘Stack It To The Loft’ and ‘Wonderin’. We will probably see these two tracks on his forthcoming mixtape ‘The Ex Files’ which should be out this month.
MTV The Wrap Up: UK Rap Rundown [News]

Last week The Wrap Up went to support the MTV Brand New nominees party at the Drury Club in London. Wretch 32 performed on the night with hits ‘Don’t Go’, ‘Blackout’ and more really getting the crowd really in the mood to party…
Kano is back and it’s good to hear new music from the talented MC after we’ve seen him acting in the second series of Top Boy. ‘Puppets and Strings’ looks at his career over the years, music industry and more, it’s clear he had a lot he wanted to tell people and get off his chest. The 6-minute track has a slow start but picks up and the last verse really shows off Kano’s lyrical skills.
Peak is someone who in the last part of this year has been keeping his name buzzing releasing freestyles, clever move as the ‘Str88 Ham’ mixtape will be out January from him, Syikes, FA andKerz. He dropped a Rated freestyle for GRM Daily last week and really impressed with his bars getting people ready for what’s to come.
Fem Fel recently dropped an EP ‘Left Of Centre’ after being quiet for a little while. The South London rapper takes it down a dubby route on the production that is quite dark for track ‘Massive’ with his flow riding the beat. The visuals are quite trippy and match the track near perfect.
Logic released the video to ‘More True Talk’ produced by Last Resort off the album of the same name. The conscious rapper talks us through a number of issues on this track and shows off different flows on this truthful track. If you like hearing hip-hop that stands for something with thoughtful bars check this out.
Skore Beezy released a video covering Wretch 32’s ‘Forgiveness’ in memory of Veli a friend and talented rapper who sadly passed away, and to mark the release of his mixtape ‘Beezy In Da Trap’. We hear verses from both Skore Beezy and Veli both are hugely talented rappers and Skore is one to watch out for in 2014, I can predict big things for him, download the mixtape now and you’ll understand why I say this.
Signing out x

This week The Wrap Up team were invited down to the Rascals ‘Class 90’ album launch. The first song off it to be released produced by Show N Prove and featuring Big Narstie ‘My Different’ has been getting a lot of love and he was there to perform it live with them. Squeeks, Manga, Maxsta and more also performed tracks live they were featured on on the album…
Wretch 32 had everyone talking last week as GRM Daily resumed it’s Daily Duppy for it’s 3rd series and Wretch showed everyone how it was done. It’s going to make it hard for the other rappers now as he showed what a fine lyricist he is and why he is classed as one of the UK’s greats of our time.
This rapper is one that everyone needs to be aware of and is perhaps overlooked by some, but things are changing. Mynature from South London has got people taking notice this year with his releases and ‘The Massacre’ has hit the nail on the head for me showcasing his machine gun flow. Mynature will be causing waves in 2014 with his forthcoming album, watch this space.
Alwayz Recording artist Yellows has been gearing up for the release of his 19 track mixtape ‘Yellows Pages 2’ which features AR artists Fuze BW, Paigey Cakey, G Money plus Sneakbo, Mark Asari and more released 10th December. The video ‘Coz I Can’ featuring Stacky was released last week, see who you can spot in the there.
Murda releases his mixtape ‘A Brick From The Block’ mixtape in a few days (29th November) and gives us a little taster of what to expect by dropping a video via Toxic TV ‘Out Here’ featuring Bellzey. They are both rappers to look out for, and I look forward to hearing the mixtape to see what it has to offer.

Last week The Wrap Up headed down to the Fedz movie premiere at the Genesis Cinema in East London. The independent British film based on a policeman who resigns from the force after suspicions of corruption, instead investigates a terrorist group who have released a virus. The film has recognizable faces including Dexter Fletcher and Ashley Walters and the soundtrack is pure UK hip hop featuring music from Squingy, K Koke, DVS, J Spades, Ex, Joe Black, Logic and many more. The afterparty saw live performances from the USG team also joining them were South London’s Sho Shallow and Ard Adz.
Peak has been a bit quiet recently, I hope this is because he’s been hard at work in the studio creating something good for us. Last week he dropped a ‘Penthouse’ freestyle video showing why he has a lot of potential to go far. Make sure you check that out.
Peak also dropped a ‘Pound Cake’ freestyle for the Rap City Back2Rap freestyle series. They talk about everything from the music scene to women telling truths in their bars.
Another South London collective STP released the video ‘Bout To Blow’. This one comes from Mitch featuring Leaanneah Lauren and Windy Music’s Sho Shallow as they spit some inspirational bars and how they’ll keep going to reach their dreams. This track can be found on The STP 2 mixtape available for free download.
Moving over to North London, Islington we saw three artists from there drop a track a together.Face and Squeeks provided the bars for ‘They Think We Made It’ joined by Frostie who delivered the hook. The track is produced by Westy and Weezy Brown.
If you haven’t already make sure you go and buy Dru Blu’s street album ‘Double Or Nothing’. On a recent interview he explained the name behind it.
“Everyone knows me as Don Strapzy Don Dru Blu everyone calls me Donny anyway so D.O.N just gave it an acronym.. ‘Double Or Nothing’ that’s how we live anyway. We put everything into this so it’s either doubling it or man’s lost everything.”

I don’t think many weeks have gone by without me mentioning these guys names over the past few months, and it was only over a week ago they won best newcomers at the MOBO’s. Even bigger news for them this week; Krept & Konan announced on Wednesday (23) that they had officially signed a deal with Virgin EMI.
Krept said via Twitter: “We will always be Krept & Konan and I’m glad we have a major label willing support us for what WE do that don’t want us to change.”
North London rapper Young Spray who has been in the game for around a decade took to Link-Up TV to hit us with some hard street bars for his second ‘Behind Barz’. It also got a lot of people talking on whether he was taking a direct shot at Mashtown’s J Spades.
“I’m that rapper that has never ever gave man fades, more like I gave man spades to bury their friend.”
One of the UK’s most promising emcee’s dropped the first video ‘Testing The Water’ from his forthcoming EP of the same name due in January 2014. Blizzard from Manchester let us into his thoughts for this deep track, also showing us he is a well-rounded artists by playing the piano, singing and also producing the track.
Another young rapper from Manchester put out a video for us last week. This one is from Geko who put out a freestyle video for track ‘Working’ which discusses some life experiences and what he sees around him. Look out for more in the coming months from Geko.
We know Dru Blu’s been hard at work in the studio as he is due to drop his ‘Double or Nothing’ street album soon which sees features from Stylo G, Fekky, Davinche and more. Warming us up for the release and perhaps showing us one of his impressive tracks off the album, Dru dropped the video to ‘Game Changer’, featuring and produced by the talented Dot Rotten. I can’t wait to hear what else Dru has in store for us.

The MOBO’s returned to Glasgow for their 18th year and we had some commendable winners. On Saturday we saw a duo that have kept a lot of people talking this year and had huge achievements winning best newcomers, well done to Krept & Konan for their award it was truly deserved. The best male award went to the Godfather of Grime, Wiley who this year dropped an album and too many tracks to name showing his incredible work rate. Best hip hop/grime went to Tinie Tempah who will be releasing his ‘Demonstration’ album very soon.
Speaking of Krept & Konan last week they dropped the video to one of their bangers off the ‘Young Kingz’ mixtape. ‘Young N Reckless’ features North London emcee Chip. They recently performed a sold out show in the 02 Islington Academy and have another nearly sold out show coming up in December.
Chip returned to LA to continue work on his third studio album. The first day he was back he put on Instagram a picture of himself with Busta Rhymes. Maybe we can expect collaboration there. Chip’s always kept himself in the public eye, whether it’s freestyles, his tracks, collaborations or through other paths he knows how to keep his name relevant. On Friday he showed us his take on Drake’s ‘Pound Cake’ telling people this is he is still growing as an artist and there is more to come.
S.A.S took it down a completely different route to what we normally hear from them as we were introduced to a new track from them ‘Better Than This’. The two brothers Mega and Mayhem took it down a dubstep route with the beat for this track. What do you think?
Lady Lykez made a quick return after her track which tore up the airways ‘I Love My Butt’. ‘Rosa Parks’ is the newest one from the fiery emcee who recently flew to Atlanta to perform at the AC3 Festival representing the Best British talent. She shows off her more cultured side to a woman who inspires her and shows off her skippy flow for this edgy track.
P Money dropped a banger last week titled ‘Round The Clock’. A hip-hop beat overlaid with metal comes from Loadstar, with P’s familiar voice giving a warning, “If you want it you can get it / But be careful when you get it”. As usual he rides the beat effortlessly in true P Money style.
