BET Awards 2012 – Who Was Wearing What

Willow and Jaden Smith looked very cute and funky together on the red carpet dressed in tops by MSFTS clothing with Willow wearing a long t-shirt with holey leggings and Chanel Dr.Marten style boots. Jaden wore zebra print harem style trousers and the print on his hoodie to match with black and white trainers.

Power couple’s Jay Z and Beyoncé, and Kanye West and Kim Kardashian sat next to each other at the awards all looking very glamorous and sophisticated. Beyoncé looked stunning in a silk yellow dress, with husband Jay Z looking every inch the boss in a grey suit, white shirt and white loafers. Kanye West and Kim looked good next to each other both in white with Kim matching her dress with gold high-heeled sandals.

Latoya, Big Sean and Michelle Williams posed for a picture together with Latoya wearing a satin pale pink dress with a black lace design. Michelle Williams wore a lemon, flowing, chiffon dress with netting at the bottom that made it into a ballgown style dress. Big Sean looked every inch the hottest rapper on the red carpet with a sleeveless leather hooded jacket and black jeans with loads of gold chains and a gold Gucci belt unaware he was about to pick up the Best New Artist.

The heavy jewellery especially chains were out in full force on the rappers on the red carpet. One of the biggest chains I spotted was on Busta Rhymes who wore a few huge gold chains with medallions. Tyga for me would win the award for the rapper with the best bling for the night, as he only wore one chain, but it was encrusted with diamonds and was glistening.  He matched the chain with his watch and bracelet on the same hand.

The trend for a lot of females were to have their hair slicked up in a ponytail or high bun. This was seen on Faith Evans who rocked the red carpet looking very stylish wearing leopard print leggings, a white shirt with black collar and a black blazer. Monica also went for a slick high bun and looked amazing in a fitted maroon blazer showing off some cleavage and matching sequin trousers. Melyssa Ford the actress and model had her hair up slicked back with a quiff and looked stunning in a keyhole white dress, with a gold clutch and matching gold shoes. La La Vasquez an actress and TV personality looked gorgeous in a sequin silver jumpsuit and belt, with her hair slicked back in a ponytail plait.

Rapper Common and comedian Kevin Hart kept it smart/casual for the awards. Common who is known for his slick dress sense wore a short-sleeved shirt and loose tie and jeans. Comedian & actor Kevin Hart who picked up an award for Best Actor rocked a smart white blazer; with a low cut brown t-shirt and jeans, with a simple gold chain and watch.

Azealia Banks No Longer Wants To Be A Rapper

Over the weekend Azealia Banks made an announcement that she was leaving the rap game and also deleting her twitter. She wrote on her Tumblr….

no longer wishing to be a rapper.i never was…. and as soon as i started paying attention to bullshit urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the “rap game”… or whatever the f*ck that means…no more twitter for me… it makes me entirely too accessible. Catch me on tumblr… it’ll be more interesting.

Before the above drama, she spoke on her ex-manager Troy Carter, who is Lady GaGa’s current manager…

I know who you are yes…You short bald man…I know you planted these false stories.

Guess what?: I’m still not going to let you manage me again. I’ve dealt with enough cyber bullying to see right thru this.

I will definitely be working BY MYSELF and saving MY 20% On management commissions while I avoid you sharks in the water….

I really want a female manager. Women are just so much smarter.

I just want a really hardcore woman…Or a really gay man as my manager…You other n-ggas have WAY too much ego sh-t with y’all.

I just need a lady with some really intimidating glasses and a crazy shoe game to just stomp all you phonies out!

Lol I’m dead serious tho…About not hiring another male manager. The next manager you all see will be the kuniest kunt ever.

Nas & Eminem Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap Freestyles

Ice-T takes us on an intimate journey into the heart and soul of hip-hop with the legends of rap music. This performance documentary goes beyond the stardom and the bling, to explore what goes on inside the minds, and erupts from the lips, of the grandmasters of rap. Recognized as the godfather of Gangsta rap, Ice-T is granted unparalleled access to the personal lives of the masters of this artform that he credits for saving his life. Interspersed with the performer’s insightful, touching, and often funny revelations are classic raps, freestyle rhymes, and never before heard a cappellas straight from the mouths of the creators. What emerges is a better understanding of, and a tribute to, an original American art form that brought poetry to a new generation.

Righteous anger? Big Dawg Westwood lays into the Mic

It started off with Devlin dropping in on Westwood’s show to talk about his new music…

At 5 minutes 20 seconds Devlin drops in Mic Righteous’ name.

“I see other people trying to come through, even if there not my favourite MC’s like Mic Righteous. At least he’s trying to be lyrical man, so I have to respect that little corner. I’m all for the lyrics.”

Then last night Westwood decided to comment on how no-one was beefing, not mentioning any names but we all knew who he was talking about, especially when he said GO back to Margate. This is what the Big Dawg said last night…

“His (Devlin) interview is online, he didn’t name names of who he was really pointing the finger at, but people are claiming it’s them, and I was here and I talked to him on mic and off mic, and it’s not you you just want the promo kid, you just want the promo. Don’t take the promo baby. You just want to big your chest up and claim beef when there’s no beef there. I read your timeline don’t get it twisted kid, your sour. Fix your face sucker. Don’t be claiming what you want…it aint you. Go back to Margate.”

Its still too early to imagine how this might develop, but the idea of 2 equally talented lycrical heavyweights wading into each other is an exciting prospect. Although having said that, why is Westwood getting hot and bothered about it? I guess he’s still angry at being fired from his show.

50 Cent Isn’t Worried About The New Generation Of Rappers & Has A Message For Young Buck

After the release of the Lost Tapes with DJ Drama, 50 Cent spoke with All Hip Hop, and in part two speaks on the younger generation of hip hop artists and why he has nothing to worry about.

His ten year run of the Forbes list of the of the Wealthiest Hip Hop Artists is why he isn’t sweating. This year he ranked as 5th, not bad for someone who hasn’t released an album in 3 years.

“I been on the Forbes list 10 years straight – consecutively,” he said. “When I came on the Forbes [list] this year, I’m like, ‘Would you look at that? I’m still there.’ I’ve been on a motherfuckin’ lunch break – I’ve been on vacation and I’m still there. Now I’m telling you I’m hustling in a different way and it’s paying off. If you look at it, I ain’t put an album out in three years, and I’m still in the list? Okay, let’s see the other guys do that.”

He then spoke on former G Unit rapper Young Buck who he gave a lot of support to and how he shouldn’t have “bit the hand that feeds.”

“Where I’m from, we got a code of conduct that we follow: don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” he said. “If somebody [wants] to make you a success and comfortable in every way, down to the point that I pay your taxes for you after you [mismanage your money]…and you still [act] disrespectful and say the kind of shit you saying? Niggas is lucky you don’t just kill ‘em. Niggas shot me for $5,000…[I] feel fuckin’ sorry for somebody that has no opportunities; [I] don’t feel sorry for the person who did something stupid.”

Chris Brown, Meek Mill & Drake Diss Rihanna On Twitter

Over the weekend just gone, the three American music artists who have all dated Rihanna started a little twitter beef over her. Instead of defending her honour though, they dissed her too. It started off with Chris Brown, who after finding out Meek Mill had been up to no good with his ex, removed him from his song Don’t Judge Me. Meek Mill then tweeted this…

Chris Brown quickly tweeted this back

Referring to Dreamchasers 2 mixtape Meek Mill tweeted back

Drake having been with Rihanna too felt he had to jump in.

With Chris Brown responding simply LOL… Drake then tweeted again…

Chris Brown ended the twitter conversation by making a joke…

This is not good news for Rihanna as she is being classed as a girl who gets passed around easily. Chris Brown could have had Rihanna back, but choose his new girlfriend over her, Meek Mill has denied dating Rihanna, but replied to Breezy that  she let ‘him watch the throne,’ and she is communal property. Drake who always seemed to be close to her, refers to her as   ‘our ho.’

No Malice Defends His Brother Pusha T

Pusha T released Exodus 23:1 last week, not naming who the track was aimed towards, but was presumed to be towards Drake and Young Money. Young Money’s CEO Lil Wayne responded with a tweet “Fuk pusha t and anybody that love em”on May 24th, and then on the 26th Funkmaster Flex debuted Weezy’s response, Goulis, where unlike Pusha T, Weezy named names on the track. Drake then performed on Friday night (26th May) on his Club Paradise tour in Washington saying, If you was doin’ 16s when I was 16, and your shit flopped and you switched teams, don’t talk to me, my nigga…”

In the meantime Weezy tweeted…

With Pusha T’s manager tweeting him back…

Clipse member and Pusha T’s older brother No Malice got involved on Friday too reminding everyone of when Birdman and Weezy were caught kissing on camera tweeting this…

“Well I LOVE Pusha! That’s my blood and I ain’t never kiss em.”

Nas Talks About His Top 25 Albums

Complex decided to ask Nas what his top 25 all time albums were. With his own debut album llmatic, released in 1994 being picked as one of the greatest hip hop albums, and his new album Life Is Good due to be released, Complex wanted to know albums he would put in the top of his list.

Nas named Marvin Gaye’s Here, My Dear and MC Shan’s Down By Law. Naming Jay Z’s Reasonable Doubt as one of his top picks he also explained that as Hov was about to release his debut album, he could tell he was akin to Notorious B.I.G and himself, and he was sticking around.

“I seen this kid Jay, I already knew he was nice. I’m watching him come into the game and he delivered a lyrical album, a street album, and he grabbed his spot,” he recalled. “A lot of people couldn’t do that. A lot of people that were putting out albums around the time Reasonable Doubt dropped are no longer around. He staked his claim. He showed everyone he was nice with his lyrics, he was nice with it. He came in the tradition of the New York streets, the way I did, the way Biggie did. He came in that way and he’s been holding it down ever since. If you listen to Reasonable Doubt, he made it happen.”

He also spoke on Boogie Down Productions 1987 debut Criminal Minded and KRS One

“The artists today are spoiled and they want to go from nobody to the best who ever did it. It’s foolishness,” he explained. “Criminal Minded, KRS-One was the streets coming after the empire of rap, the Juice Crew, without the major backing that the Juice Crew had. You know this takes a lot for me to say [that] because The Juice Crew was founded in my projects, but I gotta keep it real and give credit where credit is due. When KRS-One made the classic Criminal Minded—he didn’t need Warner Brothers, he didn’t need MCA records. He did it with an independent label. That’s why I say people show study him because here you are coming out with a classic album on an independent label, so did MC Shan. Cold Chillin’ was not a major label when Shan put out Down By Law. Artists today don’t see that entrepreneurship, they don’t live it. They claim to be the streets yet they’re looking for superstar record deals.”
